According to Comicbook.com, the speculated “Star Wars” film starring Ryan Gosling may claim a December 2027 release date.
Upcoming Ryan Gosling ‘Star Wars’ Film
The new “Star Wars” project, helmed by Shawn Levy and likely starring Ryan Gosling, is still progressing, according to screenwriter Jonathan Trooper. Although details are still unclear, the film, which has been in development since 2022, is meant to be a stand-alone film and will reportedly take place approximately five-to-six years after the events of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”

The film will introduce a new set of characters and mark a new chapter for the “Star Wars” franchise. The current release roadmap positions Levy’s film as the second in Lucasfilm’s theatrical comeback strategy. The first film will be “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” which will open in theaters on May 22, 2026.
If this film does claim the December 2027 release slot, it would arrive in theaters sooner than other previously-announced projects, including James Mangold’s “Dawn of the Jedi” and Daisy Ridley’s “New Jedi Order” film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
More details may be released at April’s Star Wars Celebration event in Japan, where Lucasfilm traditionally unveils new details about upcoming projects. This year’s event takes place from April 18 to April 20.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has recently denied rumors of her retirement. During the same interview, Kennedy confirmed the release of this and other “Star Wars” projects on the horizon.
In total, Kennedy said there are three or four “Star Wars” projects in active development right now. She confirmed James Mangold is working on a script for his pre-Old Republic film. She also said, “Well, I keep waiting for Taika [Waititi], and he is working with another writer now. He’s so busy. I love him. I think if we ever do get a script from Taika, it’s going to be fantastic. I already saw a first act that I loved, but tying him down, it’s tricky.”
As for the next “Star Wars” trilogy, Kennedy confirmed it’s being developed by Simon Kinberg. Although the details of the new saga are under wraps, Kennedy stated that “This is the next iteration, the new saga that moves us into the future.”
