Walt Disney Imagineering filed a permit for demolition of Stage 1 Company Store, the former Muppet store in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Stage 1 Company Store Demolition
The permit is for the approximate address of Stage 1: 361 Cypress Drive, Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830. The description of the work is “Demo, infrastructure prep and utility modification”. Disney has contracted PCL Construction Services, Inc.
Stage 1 Company Store, located in Grand Avenue near Muppet*Vision 3D, once sold Muppet merchandise. It never properly reopened after the COVID-19 shutdown in 2020. For the past five years, it has been used for special events and limited-time shopping experiences, including Disney Jollywood Nights photo ops and the release of May the 4th merchandise.
Muppet props have been removed from about half of the store — the front half used for Disney Jollywood Nights shopping. The back half, however, remains packed with Muppet decorations and Easter eggs.
Muppet*Vision 3D will close permanently on June 7, along with PizzeRizzo. Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, also in Grand Avenue, will close this weekend. While those venues will be gutted and refurbished into new offerings, Stage 1 Company Store will be demolished to expand the walkway of what will be a new “Monsters, Inc.” land featuring a door roller-coaster.
It’s rumored Disney is recording Muppet*Vision 3D for archival purposes. While the show’s actual movie is easy enough to archive, the experience goes beyond the screen with the interactive theater.
