Old Pirates League Sign & Entrance Blocked Again During Pirates of the Caribbean Tavern Construction

Crews have erected more construction walls near Pirates of the Caribbean at Magic Kingdom for the ongoing construction of The Beak and Barrel, a new themed bar.

The Beak and Barrel Construction

Brown construction walls block part of a street near the Pirates of the Caribbean, with people passing and colorful buildings behind.

There are now construction walls running from the edge of the Pirates of the Caribbean to the far exit of the ride’s gift shop, Plaza del Sol Caribe Bazaar. A tree and plant poking up from behind the walls are in a planter that houses one of the Pirates League signs. In our last construction update, there were only walls on the right side of the planter.

The planter and sign had previously been blocked by walls, but they came down in March, revealing that the Pirates League sign was still there. The Beak and Barrel is taking over the space that previously housed Pirates League, which closed permanently in 2020. Disney filed a permit for signage in March.

The former entrance to Pirates League is also behind construction walls now. It had a torn sail sign hanging in front of the door.

Plaza del Sol Caribe Bazaar remains open during construction. It was refurbished last year, but Disney continues to add details to the store, including new props.

Disney has also removed paneling from the old Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom portal on the clock tower. It appears the portal has been completely removed, leaving a blank framed space for now.

Disney announced the name of The Beak and Barrel earlier this month and shared details of its backstory, including the name of the new Barker Bird: Rummy. The parrot is first mate to Captain Meridian “Merry” Goldwyn, who established the tavern. The Beak and Barrel will open in late 2025, serving quick bites and alcohol.
