As the last big blockbuster to release this year, Avatar: Fire and Ash is expected to have a global opening weekend of $340M to $380M.
This opening would put it only below Disney’s Zootopia 2, which released last month to resounding global succes. The third best opening of the year also belongs to the Walt Disney Company with the live action Lilo & Stitch remake.
It should be noted the international numbers will be between $250M-$275M, which is lower than the previous installement of the Avatar franchise, as Avatar: The Way of Water opened with $310M. Internationally, the movie is available as of today in countries such as France, Germany, Korea and Italy, while the film will debut in China on Friday.
These numbers come from domestic presales, where it’s noted the third movie is tracking 30% behind the second installment ( $134.1M whereas Fire and Ash will be closer to $ 90M+).
Avatar: Fire and Ash’s score on Rotten Tomatoes rests at 71%, which is the lowest in the trilogy (Avatar: The Way of Water got 76% while Avatar received 81%).

James Cameron returns to direct the adventure film, with the cast including Sam Worthington as Jake Sully and Zoe Saldaña as Neytiri, alongside Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Oona Chaplin, Cliff Curtis, Britain Dalton, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion, Bailey Bass, and Kate Winslet. David Thewlis and Michelle Yeoh have also joined the cast.
The third film in the Avatar franchise will debut a new clan of Pandorans, the Ash People. Avatar: Fire and Ash will release exclusively in theaters worldwide in IMAX 3D, Dolby Cinema 3D, RealD 3D, Cinemark XD, 4DX, ScreenX, and premium screens on December 19, 2025.
It is also heavily rumored that the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer will premiere before Avatar: Fire and Ash when it releases in theaters next Thursday, December 19.

A limited time drone show was performed at The Walt Disney Studios Park in Disneyland Paris, while closer to home a new hat and a photo-op at Disney Springs were also made available. While not promoting the movie, the interactive creatures of Pandora have been repaired (sort of) after years of not working.
A recent lawsuit was filed against Disney and director James Cameron over alleged copyright infringement.
