The other three Cameron films to reach this mark include Avatar, Avatar: Way of Water, and Titanic. Currently, the global total for Fire and Ash is $1.32 billion, with $364.7 million domestic and $955 million international.

The previous two films have enjoyed remarkable box office staying power. The original 2009 epic Avatar debuted to $77 million domestically and remained in first place for seven consecutive weekends, eventually climbing to $760 million in North America and $2.92 billion worldwide. The sequel also managed to hold onto the No. 1 spot for seven weekends and ended up earning $688 million domestically and $2.3 billion globally.

The film belongs to Disney owned 20th Century Studios, allowing Disney to also grab the top three Motion Picture Association films of 2025, joining Zootopia 2 and Lilo & Stitch.

Avatar: Fire and Ash earned a whopping $345 million in box office revenue globally in its opening weekend. Of that total, $88 million was from the domestic box office pull with $257 million from international market. This marked it as the 2nd highest studio opening globally of 2025, behind only Disney’s Zootopia 2. Avatar: Fire and Ash surpassed $869 million globally in its second weekend.

James Cameron returned to direct the film, with the cast including Sam Worthington, and Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Oona Chaplin, Cliff Curtis, Britain Dalton, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion, Bailey Bass, Kate Winslet, David Thewlis, and Michelle Yeoh.

Avatar: Fire and Ash is Disney’s third 2025 theatrical release to make $1 billion after the live-action Lilo & Stitch and Zootopia 2. The latter is Disney’s highest-grossing animated film of all time.
