The Tomorrowland rocks repainting project continues nearly three years after it started, with the rocks apparently getting a new color scheme. Crews resumed painting the faded rocks earlier this month.

The project began in 2023 before pausing indefinitely. It seems the work restarted because the Magic Kingdom moat was drained to accommodate repainting Cinderella Castle, making it easier to reach the rocks as well.

On the morning of February 23, we saw two painters looking over the rocks on the north side. As you can see, the moat is completely drained and dry, allowing them to paint the rocks from below with ladders.

The bases of the rocks have their original brown color showing through. This was mostly hidden by the water of the moat. The rocks first received their modern blue-gray color in 2016.

The 2023 painting project began with the easily accessible rocks at the end of the bridge. These rocks have been painted again, this time a much darker color. They were shiny blue-gray before but are now almost black.

A few other sections have been painted the same dark gray/black, including this spire near Tomorrowland Terrace on the south side.

That’s the only rock that appears to have been painted on the south side. Otherwise, the blue-gray of 2023 shines across the tops of the rocks, followed by the faded gray that was never repainted, and then an obvious line of brown where the waterline used to be.

There are now rolling planters blocking the walkway next to the rocks on the north side.
