The brick wall that crews began chipping away earlier this week is now gone from the former Muppets Courtyard in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The land is being transformed into Monstropolis, inspired by Monsters, Inc.
Brick Wall Demolished

On Wednesday, the top of one of the brick columns at the entrance to the courtyard had been partially demolished. The column is now completely gone. It was on the right side of the entrance.

The column and attached wall appear to have been fully demolished. Concept art indicates, however, that new nearly identical columns will be erected in their place.

The other entrance column and wall are still standing. We would expect them to be demolished soon, as well. Ironically, that wall was knocked down and reconstructed just a few years ago during construction of Ice Cold Hydraulics.

Concept art for Monstropolis shows brick columns without walls at the entrance to the courtyard. The columns will be topped by winged statues and decorated with plaques, similar to the entrance gate of Monsters University. Between the columns will be a large “M” medallion on the scale-patterned ground.

The former MuppetVision 3D theater will house a new show. Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano will become Harryhausen’s and PizzeRizzo will be re-themed into a new quick-serve restaurant. At the back of Monstropolis will be the brand-new Monsters, Inc. door roller-coaster, Disney’s first suspended and vertical lift coaster.
Meanwhile, the Muppets are moving across the park to take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.
