Final Paint Touch-Ups Seemingly Completed on Tomorrowland Rocks in Magic Kingdom

It looks like the repainting project of the Tomorrowland rocks at Magic Kingdom is finally complete. Any work that remains to be done will just final touch-ups, but we didn’t see any painters on site this Wednesday (March 25).

Earlier this month, all the rocks had been painted a shade of blue but we didn’t know how much work was yet to be done. Since then, the southern rocks close to Tomorrowland Terrace got a few more shades of paint including some brown detailing.

The rocks were originally brown but were painted shiny blue-gray in 2016. When the moat was drained in February, some of that original brown was showing through where the water lapped at the rocks.

It looks like Disney decided to embrace the mix of brown and blue with the new color scheme. Now as the colors fade, the old blue and brown shades won’t stand out as much.

The repainting project actually began back in 2023, but it was suddenly stalled after the rocks closest to the Tomorrowland bridge were refreshed.

This left most of the rocks faded to a dull gray — almost white — while the rocks by the bridge were shiny blue-gray. The contrast only became more obvious as the years dragged on.

The repainting project resumed in February, apparently because of the moat draining, which was done so crew members could also repaint Cinderella Castle.

Three years after the painting project began, it is finally finished and all the rocks now match each other. The new blue isn’t as bright and metallic as the old color. There are also more shades, giving the rocks more depth.

Above is a new photo of the rocks alongside a photo from June 2023.

There are still some rolling planters blocking a walkway behind the northern rocks.
