Oga’s Cantina Timeline Update Removes Reference to Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser at Disneyland

Oga’s Cantina in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland this week reopened after a months-long refurbishment. Though the work mostly involved general maintenance, there have been minor changes related to the land’s timeline shift.

Oga’s is open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. It no longer offers reservations — there is only walk-up availability.

Half of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, including Oga’s Cantina, will soon be set during the original Star Wars trilogy. The half with Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is still set during the sequels. The timeline shift officially goes into effect on April 29, but Disney said guests might see updates before then — that includes in Oga’s Cantina.

Inside, the decorations and furniture generally look the same. According to cast members, the chairs and tables were replaced, but they have the same designs. The restaurant reportedly received drainage updates, too.

DJ R-3X is still spinning tunes. The droid is former Star Tours pilot RX-24, who crash-landed on Batuu. He was reprogrammed by Mubo of Droid Depot to be DJ R-3X — although this was said to have been “recent” in the former backstory. With Oga’s Cantina set nearly 40 years earlier, R-3X was presumably reprogrammed by an earlier member of the Mubo family.

The only difference with R-3X is that all of his dialogue referencing the First Order and the Resistance has been removed. It doesn’t appear any new dialogue has been added. R-3X was voiced by Paul Reubens, who passed away in 2023.

Everything looks refreshed. Lighting and fog effects behind the bar appear to be in good working order.

The biggest visual difference comes on this notice board near the door. Two messages have been removed and two new ones have been added to better reflect the updated story.

These messages have been removed:

  • Seeking Work? Check your datapad for jobs. No experience needed. You’re hired! Steady work and fair credits. Droids need not apply.
  • Mechanic Wanted! Experience with Chandrilan class 1 starships required. Ability to speak Shyriiwook a plus. Contact Captain R. Keevan of the Halcyon, CSL

The second referenced Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser at Walt Disney World, which closed permanently in 2023.

These messages (in the bottom left corner) are new:

  • Now Hiring, Cantina Manager Inquire at bar! No questions, including why the last one “quit.”
  • Make Some Quick Credits! Sell your Surplus! Imperial, Rebel, Republic, or Separatist – Black Spire Outpost will buy it all!

The first might hint at Oga’s relatively recent take over of the cantina, while the second lists factions that existed during the prequels and original trilogy, rather than groups like the First Order and the Resistance from the sequel trilogy.

Here are the rest of the messages, which remain the same:

  • Flight Crews Wanted No training necessary, fair pay, great experience. Discretion a must. Inquire at Ohnaka Transport Solutions in the spaceport.
  • Found Dusty black vest with multiple pockets in the Corellian style.
  • Lost Tooka Responds to “Luma.” Reward: Keep her.
  • Someone owe you? I collect. Ask for Harkos.
  • Cantina Presents Joh Yowza (of former Max Rebo Band) in a rare solo performance! Sail Barge Blues.
  • Missed Connection You wore a tight, black hood and your friend called you “Chaakrabbit.” You shot me a death stare and I knew you were the one. Buy you a drink sometime?
  • Landspeeder landlocked? See Salju at Black Spire Station.
  • Dejarik Holochess Board Well used, but in perfect working condition. $140 OBO
  • Runaway Droid Grumpy orange C1 unit last seen outside the Droid Depot. If spotted, inform staff.

The first message is a reference to Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. The found vest and runaway droid are, respectively, references to Han Solo and Star Wars Rebels‘ Chopper, and are actually more relevant following the timeline shift.

Han Solo — as well as Luke, Leia, and Darth Vader — will soon appear in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. He was technically dead during the land’s original timeline.

Being a droid, Chopper has a long lifespan, but he’s most known for his appearances in Rebels, which is set right before the original trilogy.

So far, the timeline shift and related changes have only been announced for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland, not Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
