Crews are installing more scaffolding at the former MuppetVision 3D theater in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The venue will be transformed with new decorations as part of the upcoming Monstropolis.
Monstropolis Construction

When we visited the park on Thursday, March 26, we saw crew members constructing scaffolding around the building’s clock tower. They had already installed more scaffolding above the theater’s main entrance, with poles now almost reaching as high as the building’s rooftop.

Previously, the scaffolding ended about halfway up the front wall. Crew members removed brick from the facade in the approximate shape of a new marquee. Brick was similarly removed from the clock tower for new decorations.

More scaffolding may continue to be added until it’s as tall as the clock tower. We don’t know what new experience will be in the theater, but the venue will be renamed “The Glob” according to concept art (at the bottom of this article).

Crews have also stripped bricks from the remaining entrance column. The opposite column and wall were demolished last week. We expect this side to come down soon. New brick columns topped by winged statues will then be constructed.

On March 25 crew members were installing scaffolding around the water tower of Gonzo’s Royal Flush. The scaffolding appears complete, now surrounding the water tower and reaching its rooftop. The water tower, along with the rest of the building, will be repainted, as seen in the concept art below.

The courtyard will also house Harryhausen’s (formerly Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano) and a brand-new Monsters, Inc. door roller-coaster. PizzeRizzo will become a new quick-service restaurant.
Disney has not announced an opening timeframe for Monstropolis.
