Scaffolding Goes Up Around Gonzo’s Royal Flush Water Tower, More Brick Wall Demolition at Muppets Courtyard

Crews began installing scaffolding around the Gonzo’s Royal Flush water tower at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on Wednesday morning, March 25. The structure is being re-themed as part of the Monstropolis reimagining of Muppets Courtyard.

While there has been scaffolding around the Gonzo’s Royal Flush building for weeks, this is the first scaffolding to reach the water tower. The building houses the land’s restrooms and will be re-themed to Monstropolis rather than demolished. The water tower will also remain just with a new color scheme.

Other theming like some pipes and the Gonzo’s Royal Flush sign have already been removed.

Currently, the water tower has a purposefully old and rusted appearance with a faded “Broadway Plumbing” logo. The backstory of Muppets Courtyard indicated Gonzo took over the Broadway Plumbing factory and turned it into Gonzo’s Royal Flush.

According to Monstropolis concept art (above), the building will retain its red brick but with green roofing and details. The water tower will be refreshed and also get a green roof.

There are four water towers in the courtyard. In this aerial photo by @bioreconstruct from earlier this month, we can see all four still intact. But the three at the back of the courtyard will be removed.

Another water tower will be added to PizzeRizzo. The venue is expected to become a new Monsters, Inc.-themed quick-service restaurant.

The water tower on Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano will be replaced by a giant eyeball supported by equally giant chopsticks. The restaurant will become Harryhausen’s from the first Monsters, Inc.

Monstropolis Entrance

Meanwhile, work continues on the Monstropolis entrance. One of the brick walls at the front of the courtyard was demolished last week. Now crew members have started demolishing the opposite wall. They’ve stripped brick from one side of the end column.

New brick columns will be constructed and topped with winged statues, as seen in the concept art below.

Monstropolis will include a new theatrical experience in the former MuppetVision 3D theater and a Monsters, Inc. door roller coaster.
