Aerial Photos Show Significant Foundational Progress at Monstropolis in Hollywood Studios

Over the weekend, aerial photographer bioreconstruct compiled several new photos of Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. These show significant progress near the roller coaster and the former Muppets Courtyard areas.

Monstropolis Construction

From above the main Monstropolis area, we can see that the slate of the former Muppets Courtyard area is being wiped clean for exterior refurbishments. The entire facade of MuppetVision 3D is covered in scrim and scaffolding, while the entire exterior of the former Company 1 Studio Store is now grey.

Over at the new roller coaster area, we see support columns being installed. Last week, we saw these columns staged nearby, and we suspect they are many of those columns. All around this freshly paved area, we see raised platforms and other installation areas, likely for more supports or other coaster elements in the near future.

Near the beams, a whole section of conduits and grid is yet to be paved over. There are many raised metal platforms installed here as well. From previous updates, we've seen crews installing elements and covering them section by section.

As you can see above, it appears the foundational paving/burying is just over halfway done at the Monsters, Inc. door coaster.

The footprint for this forthcoming coaster is sizable in this area, which was formerly a parking lot behind Muppets Courtyard. In the distance the former Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser building can be seen.

The ground next to the former MuppetVision 3D theater has been leveled. Per the concept art, this area should have a line of trees planted in it.

Here is the concept art showing the greenery around the forthcoming Glob theater.

Monstropolis takes over the former Muppets Courtyard, along with a new coaster show building being added on as an expansion to the park in what was formerly a backstage Cast Member parking lot. The door coaster will be Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster and first vertical lift coaster.

Mama Melrose’s will become Harryhausen’s, a restaurant visited by characters in the first Monsters, Inc. PizzeRizzo will likely be a new quick-service restaurant. Disney has not announced what will go in the MuppetVision 3D theater.
