Behind-the-Scenes With Michael James Scott Before Final Genie Performance

Scott told D23, “Being the longest-running Genie on Broadway and around the world has been the journey of a lifetime—one that’s inspired, challenged, and reminded me every night why I love the stage. It’s been an incredible honor to be part of something so special, and I’m truly grateful to the Disney on Broadway family for their trust, support, and for making this experience unforgettable and filled with a whole lot of Disney Magic.”

Scott was the Genie stand-by when Aladdin opened on Broadway in 2014 and then originated the role for the 2016 Australian production, earning the Helpmann Award. He went on to perform as the Genie on the West End and in the North American tour before taking over the role on Broadway in 2019.

He has performed as part of the Disney on Broadway Concert Series at the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts multiple times.

Scott’s other Broadway credits include the Minstrel in Something Rotten!, Dr. Gostwana in The Book of Mormon, a swing for Tarzan, The Producer in Gutenberg! The Musical!, and ensemble/understudy roles in Jersey BoysHair, and Elf. He plays Nurse Francois Dubois in the Scrubs revival on ABC.
