Before audiences headed to theaters for Toy Story 5, they spent an impressive amount of time revisiting Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of Andy and Bonnie’s toys on Disney+.

In a press release shared by Disney on Sunday, the first four Toy Story films drove more than 60 million hours of viewing on Disney+ in the lead-up to the theatrical release of Toy Story 5.

Impressively, the company described the spike as the largest streaming lift it has ever seen tied to an upcoming theatrical release.

That means fans were not just turning out for the new Pixar sequel in theaters — they were also going back through the franchise’s earlier chapters at home. The original Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Toy Story 3, and Toy Story 4 are all available for streaming on Disney+, in addition to Pixar’s Lightyear and the backlog of Toy Story shorts.

The renewed interest came as Toy Story 5 opened to $71 million on its opening day alone. Disney said the debut marked the biggest global opening of 2026 and the largest opening weekend in Toy Story franchise history.

It was also named the top preview film of the year, bringing in $17.5 Million in previews at the box office.

The streaming surge is another example of how Disney’s major theatrical releases can drive viewers back to older entries in a franchise, especially one as multi-generational as Toy Story. The first film debuted in 1995, making the series a 30-year part of Pixar and Disney history.

Toy Story 5 follows the characters as they face a new enemy: technology, as a new high-tech addition to Bonnie’s bedroom, Lilypad, threatens to take over playtime.
