The frameworks of new entrance columns are now visible in the Monstropolis construction site at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The old brick pillars were demolished earlier this year.

Four column frameworks rise above the construction walls near the front of the site, approximately where the old entrance structures used to be. There are two taller frames in the center and two shorter frames on the outside, although the heights might not be final.

The four columns match the concept art, pictured above. While the Muppets Courtyard entrance had brick walls with one large opening in the center, the Monstropolis entrance will just consist of the four columns, so there’s more entrance space. The two taller columns are topped with monster statues in the concept art.

The entrance concept is similar to the Monsters University entrance seen in the second film.

We will probably see more elements added to these frames and concrete poured into them over the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, the Gonzo’s Royal Flush bathroom building has new exterior insulation. Much of the exterior brickwork was previously stripped away. The water tower will remain, according to concept art.

The MuppetVision 3D theater received new insulation and drywall in May. The theater will get a new marquee and decorative elements on the clock tower. It will house a new experience, but Disney has yet to announce details.

Monstropolis takes over the former Muppets Courtyard, along with a new coaster show building being added on as an expansion to the park in what was formerly a backstage Cast Member parking lot. The door coaster will be Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster and first vertical lift coaster.
