“Stolen Kingdom,” the documentary about wrongdoings and the theft of Buzzy at Walt Disney World, will premiere at the 31st Slamdance Film Festival next year.
‘Stolen Kingdom’ Premiere
Slamdance announced their full 2025 lineup, including “Stolen Kingdom,” on Thursday. The festival will be from February 20 through 26 at the Director’s Guild of America (DGA) and Quixote – West Hollywood. Opening night will be at The Egyptian Theatre on February 20. Online screenings will be available on the Slamdance Channel from February 24 to March 7. The exact showing times have not been announced.
Announced two years ago, “Stolen Kingdom” documents the “history of mischief, scandal, and theft at Walt Disney World, ultimately leading to the theft of an animatronic valued at nearly half a million dollars.” The animatronic in question is Buzzy, who famously went missing from the abandoned Cranium Command attraction in EPCOT six years ago. Soon after, former Cast Member Patrick Spikes was arrested for stealing thousands of dollars worth of Disney property, including Haunted Mansion clothing. It was also discovered NBA player Robin Lopez had purchased Buzzy’s clothing from Spikes, but Buzzy himself never turned up.
The documentary “features key figures from the park’s underground community, each sharing their unique stories.” Spikes is listed among the cast, along with Dave Ensign, Matt Sonswa, Leonard Kinsey, and Dan Bell. The description teases, “What begins as a tale of friendship and passion ends with one lingering question: Who stole Buzzy?”
The film is directed by Joshua Bailey and produced by Jake Williams, Slater Wayne, and Brandon Pickering. Bailey and Matthew Serrano wrote the screenplay. The runtime is 83 minutes.
