Crews are working on the facades of the former Muppets Courtyard in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, transforming the area into the Monsters, Inc. land Monstropolis.
MuppetVision 3D Theater

Some of the markings left on the front of the MuppetVision 3D building when bricks and windowsills were removed have been cleaned off. The theater’s marquee and awnings were also removed earlier during the construction process. It’s expected to get a brand-new marquee.

On Wednesday morning, February 4, we saw crew members working on one of the towers of the larger section of the building. This is the area that holds the actual theater, while the brick facade is the entrance and queue.

There were two lifts with crew members inside. They appeared to be taping up white tarps around the tower.

Paneling has been removed from the back of the tower, revealing its steel framing. This pair of towers is in the Monstropolis concept art, below, but will possibly be redone to better match the new monstrous theming.

The concept art shows green monster-inspired trim and decorations on the theater. New faux windows on the building make it look like the theater is up against a series of apartments.
Disney is spending $22.4 million to renovate the theater. They have not announced what the new show inside will be.
Gonzo’s Royal Flush Restrooms

After prop pipes were removed from the Gonzo’s Royal Flush facade, fascia has been removed from part of the roof’s edge. There are tarps secured over the raw edge instead.

Crews have painted lines and Xs on the building and removed some of the exterior brickwork. Red Xs line the corner of the building.

More red Xs are on the side around the windows. Some strips of the wall where bricks were removed are now covered in tarps. One of the concrete “windows” has “metal” painted on it. The other two have green markings.

This building houses the area’s restrooms. It will be renovated and reused as part of the Monstropolis reimagining.
More Monsters, Inc. Construction

Meanwhile, Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano is become Harryhausen’s from Monsters, Inc. A fire safety permit for the restaurant was filed not too long ago. PizzeRizzo will be similarly renovated to become a new quick-service restaurant.

Across the park, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith will soon close to be reimagined into Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets. Multiple permits have been filed for the project.
Amid these changes at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, a revival special of The Muppet Show is premiering on Wednesday, February 4. The special has already received a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics.
