The massive Fantasy Springs expansion at Tokyo DisneySea is due to open in around three years, but the Oriental Land Company has already made massive strides in construction during just the past month. Every structure is now rising into the sky, and before we know it, we’ll be walking through the waterfall into this massive 2 billion expansion in 2023. We’ve got a lot to cover, so let’s take a look at the latest progress!
Tokyo Disneyland
A structure has started to take shape behind the now-closed Showbase at Tokyo Disneyland. No word on what it is, exactly, but, I’m sure we’ll figure out soon enough.
A large area has been fenced off behind Space Mountain and the New Fantasyland area and melded with the Fantasy Springs construction site, but very little work has started here yet. Only time will tell what happens back here, I suppose.
Frozen Area
What was not too long ago but a deep pit behind New Fantasyland has started to rise into the skies. The structure for what will likely become the Frozen boat ride and the nearby restaurant has begun to take shape. This area is set to host a restaurant themed to Arendelle Castle as well as a Frozen boat ride, likely similar (if not identical) to Frozen Ever After at EPCOT and soon Hong Kong Disneyland.
Unnamed Fantasy Springs Hotel
Close to Bayside Station on the Disney Resort Line, the structure of the future unnamed Fantasy Springs Hotel has also gown a fair amount recently. Steel and some wood are already in place for parts of the structure, but it looks like concrete will be a major part of this structure rather than steel.
Workers were gathering on the structure when we visited, preparing to start their work for the day!
Parts of the hotel have already started to reach the second floor. This hotel will eventually become the most luxurious experience at Tokyo Disney Resort and is themed to Disney fantasy.
The second wing of the hotel is also well underway, with work also nearing the second story already!
Tangled Boat Attraction
Since the Tangled-themed area is closest to the current park, it’s the most difficult to spot. But the show building has risen already, and soon we’ll be seeing the lanterns together with Rapunzel, Flynn Rider, and Maximus!
Peter Pan Attraction
Of course, the star of the show in Fantasy Springs is expected to be the Peter Pan-themed attraction, which was one of the first buildings to go vertical. There’s not a whole lot of progress on the exterior of the building at present.
But that’s not so in the interior! There’s still a lot of hollow space inside and this big gap, likely necessary until that crane’s work is complete. I can’t wait to find out what this attraction is exactly, but it looks exciting!
Waterfall Overpass
Solid progress on constructing the new backstage road overpass and waterfall entrance to the land has been made as well. Soon, the bridge between the two built halves will be completed, and the concrete will finish being laid.
Central Power Station
The Central Power Station pretty much looks like it has for a while. I can’t imagine this is on the same timeline as the rest of Fantasy Springs, they probably want it up and running ASAP.
Decorative Elements
As we’ve talked about previously, a number of decorative elements are undergoing staging in the Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay parking lot, which we will one day see in Fantasy Springs. They’re already all so beautiful, I wonder how they’ll actually look inside the land? We’ll find out in 2023!
It’s amazing how much progress has been made on the land in such a short amount of time! And yet, we must remember that Fantasy Springs is still a long way off. Currently, the largest expansion at the resort since Tokyo DisneySea opened in 2001 is set to open in 2023, so we’ve got a ways to go. But stay tuned to WDWNT, we’ll be keeping you posted the entire time and after! What are your thoughts? Are you excited to visit Fantasy Springs one day?
