REVIEW: New Chicken Wings in 4 Sauces Arrive at Captain Cook’s, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

We’ve seen a lot of specialty menu items lately around the parks and resorts. From Instagram worthy slushies, to confetti pretzels, there has been no shortage of food to try (and post to social media). Some have us asking for more, while others have left us disappointed. Captain Cook’s at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has added yet another new specialty menu item, and it’s surprisingly tasty.

4 Sauce Options

Chicken wings are now available at Captain Cook’s quick service location at the Polynesian Resort. This seems to have replaced the specialty burger. A small sign by the register shows choices of 4 sauces- Spicy Korean BBQ, Buffalo, Parmesan Black Pepper, or Hawaiian Tamarin. They all sound mouth watering. An order of 6 wings is $10.99, which is a little rough. It also comes with a small side cup of pickled vegetables.

After placing our order, it took 20 minutes to get our food. The restaurant was pretty dead, so maybe the cast members just weren’t familiar with preparing them yet. Just a fair warning in case you’re in a rush to get to the Magic Kingdom or something of the like.

The size of the wings and quality of the chicken are good. The chicken itself is tender, yet unseasoned, and all of the flavor comes from the sauce. We tried Hawaiian Tamarin and Spicy Korean BBQ. The sauces are very similar in taste, but the Spicy Korean BBQ has more of a kick to it. Not necessarily overly spicy, but you could taste the heat behind the sweetness. Hawaiian Tamarin has a nice tangy taste for those who like something more mild. Overall, they’re similar enough despite very different names, but if you like a little more spice, go for the Korean BBQ. They’re both good, so you can’t really go wrong.

Hungry yet?

We like the idea of “bar food” at a quick service location so close to some of our favorite hang outs, but it is worth mentioning that these probably don’t beat the wings available at Kona Cafe upstairs. With the newly remodeled Tambu Lounge upstairs and Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto right around the corner, we definitely suggest a visit to Captain Cook’s for the wings if you need them fast. These will probably be offered for a limited time, so you may want to get there soon.

Which flavor will you try?
