Construction on the entrance fountain overhaul at EPCOT continues this week with additional work seen on some visual elements. We have seen steady progress over the last few months working towards the goal of a new-retro fountain, paying homage to the original lucite fountain that once graced the park entrance. The reimagining of the fountain in front of Spaceship Earth is part of the overall Project Gamma renovation of EPCOT that is set to be completed in 2022 in time for Epcot’s 40th anniversary.

At first glance, it doesn’t look like much noticeable progress has been made from today compared to last week, but upon closer inspection, we do see some decorative moulding has been installed, and it appears that they are staging some of the the foam-like pieces on top of the fountain to get an idea what it may look like. This comes of course, after the initial tile that was installed and tested in January. Three pieces are laid on to achieve a smooth, more clean edge. You can see weights on top of the pieces to hold them in place. Additional pieces are staged nearby.

Comparing to what we saw in early February, the progress has been steady. Overhead views from the monorail show the scrims still over the newly moulded concrete casting, which has now been fully installed all around the edge of the fountain.

EPCOT is a park in transition right now, as there are massive projects going on around large areas of the park. Whether it be the new Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure attraction or the upcoming Play! Pavilion, we are definitely going to see a new EPCOT in 2021.

From the words of Spaceship Earth… “I do know it will be quite an adventure—an adventure that we’ll take and make together. See you in the future!”
