Walt Disney World Resort Cancelling Reservations Through June 8 Due to Ongoing COVID-19 Closure

As the COVID-19 situation continues to change, a re-opening date for most parks is still unknown with the exception of Shanghai Disneyland, which reopened on May 11. As a result, many lingering resort reservations and vacation packages are slowly being cancelled. Latest reports indicated cancellations up to May 31, but now Disney has issued an official email notification indicating that reservations through June 8 are also being cancelled.

Walt Disney World Resort guests with resort hotel bookings during the week of May 31 – June 6, 2020 are receiving notifications that their stays will be impacted by temporary closures, and they may modify or cancel their Disney Resort hotel reservations or Walt Disney Travel Company packages. A guest with a vacation starting on June 8 running through June 14 has also informed us of having received a cancellation notice. Guests who didn’t book directly with Disney should contact their Travel Professional.

To provide guests additional flexibility, all Disney-imposed change and cancellation fees up to the date of check-in for reservations with arrivals through June 30 have been waived. For further assistance with cancelled reservations or to modify an existing reservation, Disney is directing guests to call in or use the chat featured on the Disney World website.

Walt Disney World recently announced that it would only begin accepting reservations for dining and resorts for travel dates starting July 1 and later. However, that is not necessarily indicative of a reopening date for the resort, as has been reiterated by parks officials. Cancellations may continue to occur on a week-by-week basis as the extended closure continues.

  1. Any word on if Disneyland has cancelled Vacations starting June 1st too? Haven’t heard anything yet.

  2. They will also be cancelling reservations for the rest of June. Is everybody starting to see a pattern?

  3. Why bother opening up all these dining locations if they’re not even going to try phasing the theme parks or resorts? How many people seriously went to Disney Springs JUST to eat a meal without planning to visit the parks too? I can’t imagine it’s a whole lot.

  4. We have a June 1-8 reservation and it isn’t canceled. We did have all of our dining reservations canceled for us for those dates though.
No hotel cancelation or email though.

    • We have reservations starting Saturday the 23rd, which have not been cancelled All of our fast pass and dining reservations have been, however. Talked to the reservation staff, they would not comment on what would happen if I showed up on Saturday.

  5. We are leaving in exactly 3 weeks for Disney World. Our trip starts June 11th. No word from Disney about cancelling our trip yet. Is it normal to be so close to a vacation’s start and not be told it’s cancelled? Not expecting parks to be open by then, but we’re holding on until we know for sure, as we already moved our vacation once, and won’t be able to move it again to later this year or next year…
