Disneyland Resort Cast Member Recall Conditions Revealed for Upcoming Reopenings

As the Disneyland Resort prepares to reopen beginning on July 9th, conditions for the recalling of cast members are starting to be revealed.

@DisneyDragon on Twitter provided sections of the conditions, which include measures to minimize the risk of spreading COVID-19 and what happens when a cast member is diagnosed with the virus.

Cast members are expected to complete an at-home health screening using a company-provided checklist before heading to work, while a secondary temperature screening using a contactless thermometer will be performed after they’ve clocked in. Cast members unable to come to work due to illness discovered by using the at-home checklist will not be issued an attendance occurrence through September 1st.

As was previously reported, guests will be required to wear face masks, and won’t be allowed into any indoor locations without wearing them. Cast members will be provided face shields if they work in an area where social distancing six feet between others isn’t achievable. Hand sanitizer will also be provided to all cast members, and refilling stations will be implemented.

Recalls will be done in order of seniority, starting with Full-time and moving to Part-time cast members. They will receive their recall notice seven days before they’re expected to return.

Most notably, the recalls will be done in two waves. In the first wave, cast members will have the option to decline returning to work and remain on furlough without losing any unemployment or medical benefits or seniority. In the second wave, recalls will be done in reverse order of seniority. At that point, cast members will have to return to work, go on an extended leave of absence (pending approval), or forfeit their job.

Another notable revelation is that Disney has yet to agree to pay cast members for time off if they’re advised to self-quarantine by medical personnel or provide COVID-19 testing on site, but negotiations with cast member unions remain ongoing. Recently, union Cast Members demanded in a letter to California Governor Gavin Newsom that the theme parks not be able to reopen on July 17th over safety concerns.

Finally, the Disney College Program, which was suspended back in March, won’t resume until all cast members have been offered a recall.

Resort cast members are expected to return to work beginning June 28th. Keep reading WDWNT and Disneyland News Today for more coverage of the reopening of the Disneyland Resort.

  1. The founder of the Walt Disney Company Walter Elias Disney would be horrified to see what his company has done to reopen. Disney has always maintained a special place in my heart and a place where you can escape the real world. They have now eliminated that feeling by requiring face shields and masks. Segregation is back I guess. I never dreamed or thought of Disney going this direction. Nothing is going to jump out on to guests or cast members and make them sick and die. People get sick, they get over it, sometimes not. This is life, everyone dies at some point. We should not go around hiding from microscopic viruses. They can go through a mask by the way. As long as individuals protect themselves responsibly by not putting their hands in ears nose and mouth and washing them frequently you will be fine. I have never worn a mask and have been out and about during the last 6 months. I have not become ill. No one in my family or anyone I know, friends and people they know have not contracted this virus. It’s nothing more than a flue. Masks are now causing respiratory issues in folks that wear them constantly especially in kids. (Toxic Shock Syndrome). Now I wouldnt be surprised if Disney is getting a little payoff from the government with this whole face diaper issue. I know the government is making millions if not more on the face mask requirements. Other theme parks are not requiring them. If restaurants are open for dine in…then it’s obvious that a face mask is worthless. Example..face mask must be worn while entering and leaving, otherwise can be off. That is non sense. If someone feels more comfortable in a mask, fine. I have nothing against it. Although I do feel sorry for them for feeling they have to wear one. I will not wear one and my family is not wearing them. They do not save lives. I am a long time pass holder and for the first time in 25 years..I will not be renewing my pass. Hard to believe. I was there at Magic Kingdome the last day they were open. I said my goodbyes just in case they were to close and not knowing the future. There now is an eternal tear in my eyes.
