Walt Disney World Files Permits for Polynesian Village Resort “Moana” Room Refurbishment

The refurbishment has started on the Great Ceremonial House at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, but there’s much more to be done in the resort rooms, some of which are receiving Moana theming. New permits suggest refurbishment of the rooms will begin soon.

The seven permits each correspond to one of the seven buildings at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort:

We caught a glimpse of some test rooms back in August when the new theming was first announced. The test rooms had different doors, carpeting, and light sconces that reflected designs from Moana.

The contractor for the refurbishment is Friedrich Watkins Company (FWC). FWC also created the pirate-themed rooms at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, which we recently toured.

Are you excited to stay in one of the Moana-themed rooms at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort? Let us know in the comments.

  1. Absolutely not excited. Not everything needs a movie tie in. The Polynesian is beautiful & a tradition. Especially in these unsettling times, we need comfort. Not something we’ve loved for years to be retheme. Chapek & crew need to stop removing & changing. Walt believes in forward thinking not simply retheming successful & beloved traditions. They keep changing things, my family & I might as well go somewhere else. If you can’t rely on tradition & comfort & want change, I’ll change to somewhere new entirely. I’d rather go somewhere new than see my beloved familiarity rethemed to some movie for the merchandise tie in. After all, isnt that all Disney is becoming? Merchandise malls instead of theme parks.

    • Well said, Liz. There is a difference between “forward thinking” and integration of IP or re-theming due to a “woke” mindset. Seems that Chapek & Co. of the later.

My family is a lover of the Poly, has been for over 30 years since I was a kid. Pains me to see IP slapped over everything. While I’m looking forward to an enhanced entry to the Poly, I hope they keep the refurb minimal and true to the asthetic. The removal of the lobby’s atrium waterfall 5 years ago broke my heart, and I still haven’t fully recovered from it!
