Any mention of Merchant of Venus, the Tomorrowland-based shop that shares a space with Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies, has been removed from the official Walt Disney World Resort website. The retail shop is likely to be closed forever in anticipation of the Wreck-It Ralph attraction taking over the adjacent space, if that is still in the works following the pandemic.
Up until recently, Merchant of Venus had its own page on the Walt Disney World Resort website. The link now directs to a generic listing of Magic Kingdom shops. All other shops, even ones that have yet to reopen since the COVID-19 closures, have a respective web page. Unopened shops have a “Temporarily Unavailable” notation, but Merchant of Venus is missing entirely.
While Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies re-opened with the Magic Kingdom Park last July, the Merchant of Venus portion of the shop remained closed and curtained off from the public.
Permits were filed for the new attraction around the closure of the parks due to COVID-19. The show would likely exit from one of the former Stitch’s Great Escape theater into the space previously occupied by Merchant of Venus. We expect that removing all mention of the shop from the website is related to the future plans and that Merchant of Venus is likely gone for good until the day the new attraction opens, if it ever does.
