Florida Governor DeSantis Suspends Local Emergency COVID Orders, Orange County Mask Mandate Likely Ending

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced today that effective immediately, he is suspending all local COVID-19 emergency orders.

DeSantis says the orders are officially suspended today and will be invalidated via executive order by July 1st.

Orange County, where Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort are located, has been under a local mask mandate. DeSantis’s actions today would render that mandate invalid.

It is important to note that this does not mean the parks aren’t requiring masks. Both Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando make and enforce their own policies, including their COVID-19 safety measures. The CDC continues to recommend the use of face masks at crowded public locations like theme parks.

Stay tuned to WDWNT for any updates to the parks’ COVID-19 policies.

78 people in Florida died of COVID yesterday. What a perfect time to tell people to quit protecting one another. Why is Deathsantis so set on killing all of his constituents?

It’s up to the individual what risk they are willing to take. Should have been this way from the beginning. Anyone who feels it’s not worth the risk for them can stay home. There are way more awaiting the dismissal of mandates than those wanting them to continue. That’s proven by the trajectory the country is moving in. DeSantis is doing a great job. That’s why it’s impossible finding a house to buy in Florida. The whole country is trying to head to Florida.

567 people died every day in Florida in 2019. 78 people dying yesterday is horrible, but using existing data + logic + acknowledging there is a vaccine for anyone who wants one means you pretty much validated his decision as correct.

What is your point? You state the number of deaths without ANY context. Does 78 represent a statistically significant increase in the number of deaths? Additionally, according to the Worldometers website, there were only 30 deaths in Florida yesterday, not 78, with only 3 in Orange County. Also, according to Worldometers, there were 1,578 fewer new cases on May 2 than there were on May 1. Contrary to your unsupported assertion, sounds like what DeSantis is doing is working. Further, what is the demographic breakdown of the deaths? Were these folks wearing masks when they contracted Covid? These are only… Read more »

This will be the decider on whether or not we revisit Disney. If they drop everything in a reasonable and timely fashion, then take my money. If they continue being ridiculously cautious, there are PLENTY places to go begging for tourism dollars. Your move Disney….

ridiculously cautious

It’s in Disney’s best interest as a company to not have its parks and resorts be seen as unsafe places (both for PR and for marketing purposes) nor have the horrible publicity of a major outbreak or any kind of spread traced to any of their parks/resorts. If anything, they’re going to err on the side of caution until it’s overwhelmingly unlikely that any serious COVID outbreak would occur on their properties,

I have a trip planned in July, I will cancel if I have to walk around in 90 degree heat in a mask. Standing in line or going inside a building, fine. But walking around masks should not be required. There are other amusement parks going to this guideline.

Definitely cancel if they don’t go back to normal, here right now and it is full price for half the magic…for sure. Not worth it to be in 95° heat with a mask for 9-10 hours

One less person in line for stuff I want to do. Keep the masks in 90 degree heat just for that reason!

Great! DeSantis is a good leader for his state of Florida, where you can decide how to live your life and run your business, among other things.

DeSantis is not commanding that people not wear a mask, he is allowing you the choice.

“Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” – Benjamin Franklin

Way to go Governor!! We have the best governor in the country. Now, the businesses need to relent and let us choose whether to wear a mask or not. If you want your employees to wear them fine, but let go with these masks. Enough is enough. Target, publix, let it go. And as for deaths from COVID, those numbers have never been reported accurately since day 1. We have more deaths from texting and driving, drunk driving, etc.

Masks dont work.. All the libs out there that cringe at this statment, send me the proof that they do work.. these businesses are just playing games and ignoring the science . If you are scared of Covid, wear a mask or stay home. IF you are not then enjoy the fresh air and live your damn life. Gov is not the answer and never will be , they are the problem and will always be.
