Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind to Still Require Virtual Queue Alongside TRON Lightcycle Run

When TRON Lightcycle / Run opens to the public on April 4, it will require virtual queue access to ride. Disney has now confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will still use the virtual queue system at that time.

This is not completely unexpected, as the attractions are at different Walt Disney World theme parks. However, there have been periods since the system was implemented where no rides required the use of virtual queue.

Virtual Queue

Guests can join the virtual queue via the My Disney Experience app. When they join, they are assigned a boarding group and told an approximate return time. When the boarding group is called in My Disney Experience, guests can report to the attraction within the provided timeframe to ride it. Guests may need to still wait in a physical queue at the attraction. Read more about how to join the virtual queue for TRON Lightcycle / Run when it opens here.

The demand for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind has been lessening now that the ride has been open for nearly a year. It’s easier for guests to obtain a virtual queue boarding group. Some guests had begun to speculate that it would stop using the system and allow guests to join the standby queue at their leisure.

TRON Lightcycle / Run

TRON Lightcycle / Run is located right behind Space Mountain in Tomorrowland. It’s outside the park’s berm, and is housed in a sweeping white canopy, which helps hide a boxy show building. The coaster’s track sweeps under the canopy after its initial launch.

The attraction picks up from where “TRON: Legacy” left off, with Kevin’s son Sam Flynn having opened a second gateway into the digital world called the Grid. The first portal was established at Shanghai Disneyland with the original TRON Lightcycle Power Run.

“In an exclusive interview, Chris Beatty, Portfolio Creative Director for Walt Disney Imagineering, prepares readers to be digitized, revealing the story and excitement that await guests,” according to press notes. “We wanted to make sure TRON Lightcycle / Run is fun and thrilling and delivers on the heart and soul of TRON and the excitement of racing on the Grid,” states Beatty.

Team Blue (the guests) competes against Team Orange in a thrilling race across the Grid, where they must capture all eight energy gates.

Upon completing their heart-pounding race and returning to Tomorrowland, Team Blue is greeted with the introduction of a new racing team, Team Green, in the post-show area sponsored by Enterprise.

Some guests who have ridden during previews have reported issues fitting on the Lightcycles. The ride vehicles are exactly the same as the ones used for TRON Lightcycle Power Run at Shanghai Disneyland, made for riders that are generally smaller than a large number of guests in the U.S.A. Body shapes and types tend to vary more in the US than in China, with more variations in height also being a factor that might impede guests riding the attraction.

Riders sit on them like a bike, and a piece needs to be lowered into place on their back. The back piece has not been able to be lowered on some larger riders. Other guests are encountering issues with the calf restraints. At the ends of some Lightcycle trains are accessible cars with seats called Light Runners. A Cast Member told us there was a thirty-minute wait to get on one of these cars during previews, with about half of the trains having accessible seating.

  1. They all came off virtual queue in past after a yr guardians still has a few more months so its not shocking. Neither of there queues need it but unlike guardians whom folks have issues w i dont see tron slowing down. Its a great ride!

  2. I hardly ever comment on webpages but this VR queue is way too much. Also, sadly Disney cast is trained all too well to explain why they need it and their explanations are hard lies. Disney cast explains the VR queue is to prevent the 5 + hour waits like Flight of Passage had. Simple math proves this is wrong

Flight ~ 1500 people per hour
~Guardians ~ 2000 people per hour. An extra 500 people per hour time
Think of a 12 hour day 9 am to 9pm – that is an extra ~6000 people thru the line

This VR queue is nothing more that Disney making money ( which is fine this post is not about that) The only reason I mention anything about money is the cast will never tell you.
