Construction continues throughout EPCOT. In World Celebration this Monday, we checked out preparation for the 2024 EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival and work on CommuniCore.
Flower & Garden Festival Blooms
Plants have been removed from the flower bed along the lagoon outside CommuniCore Hall for the Festival Blooms display of the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival. We saw the outline of a giant butterfly from the Monorail. Festival Blooms have already been set up on the opposite side of the lagoon.
The flower beds curve from the start of the World Showcase bridge, past the Imagination! Pavilion, to the edge of World Showcase.
The 2024 EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival begins on February 28. Check out the full list of topiaries and gardens.
CommuniCore Hall & Plaza
CommuniCore Hall and Plaza are expected to open this year after delays. The rest of World Celebration was completed in late 2023. The Hall will include a new Mickey & Friends meet and greet location, a demo kitchen, gallery space, a mixology bar, and an outdoor stage for live performances.
The nearby rose walk reopened recently after construction walls briefly blocked the path.
Much of CommuniCore Hall and Plaza feature Spaceship Earth-inspired paneling and patterns. There are six tall slanted poles with stage lights. Long awnings are jutting out from CommuniCore Hall, one covering the Plaza stage. There is still a lot of scaffolding around the Plaza.
Several large trees are around the edge of the plaza. The planters they sit in have not yet been filled with grass and other foliage.
On the other side of CommuniCore Hall, several crew members were on scaffolding near the roof of the building.
From the ground, we got a better look at what they were doing. They are installing new triangular pieces on the wall, which is covered in holes to secure paneling. While these triangles also create a look similar to Spaceship Earth, they are different from the paneling to the left.
So far, all of these triangular panels are flat, not three-dimensional. There are some frameworks for future triangles around holes.
A stack of triangles and frames was sitting on the scaffolding platform. A crew member was consulting a paper packet.
World Nature Pathway
Lastly, crews are working on a new pathway from Spaceship Earth to World Nature. The temporary walkway from the front of the park into World Nature closed a few weeks ago, so guests once again have to go under Spaceship Earth to reach the rest of the park. The new walkway will go past the water station for Journey of Water Inspired by “Moana.”
A sidewalk now leads from the station up to the restroom building next to Spaceship Earth. This sidewalk will be for crew and Cast Members only. Fresh pavement is in the foreground of this photo, where guests will walk. A steel framework is in the ground that is not yet paved.
Construction is also ongoing in the Canada Pavilion and U.K. Pavilion.
