During “The Future of World-Building” session at SXSW in Austin, Texas, hosted by Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro and Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Alan Bergman, it was announced that the BD-X droids will be making their way to more Disney Parks later this year.
BD-X Droids Coming To More Disney Parks
The droids will make their debut at Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Walt Disney World “later this year.” They recently made their debut with Disney Cruise Line aboard Disney Wish, though are not part of regular sailings.
The BD-X droids originally debuted in 2023 as a playtest in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland, with Imagineering previously saying that “the sky is the limit.” In 2024, the droids appeared daily as part of Season of the Force, a limited-time event featuring Star Wars-themed entertainment, food, and more. The droids also earned the 2025 Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement – Technical Innovation.
The roaming droids will also appear in “The Mandalorian & Grogu” film, which releases on May 22, 2026.
During today’s session, D’Amaro and Bergman discussed “the convergence of imagination, innovation, and the future of experiential storytelling.” Also featured during the session was a Droidsmith Audio-Animatronic by the name of Otto, who is the same species as Babu Frik.
SXSW (South by Southwest) is an annual event that takes place every March in Austin, Texas. The event covers a range of industries, including music, film, and technology. Attendees can enjoy sessions from keynote speakers, musical and comedic performances, and film screenings and premieres.
