The construction to create additional covered seating near Woody’s Lunch Box continues with more roof panels installed and exposed wiring visible.

Woody’s Lunch Box Expanded Seating Project

To resolve some of the guest concerns that Toy Story Land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios does not have enough shade or seating areas, Disney has been working to add more covered seating beside Woody’s Lunch Box. Construction in this space has been ongoing since January 2022, with only minimal progress made for the first several months. Finally, it appears construction is nearing completion for the first roof structure, and the paneling is largely complete on the second structure.

The covered seating area beside Woody’s Lunch Box is expected to be shaded by three roofing structures. Construction began on the structure closest to the existing seating, while the third structure is the least complete. As we can see above the rolling planters surrounding the construction zone, the third structure is still only made of exposed metal beams.

Since our last project update in February, wiring has been installed on this third structure. The wires are still loosely hanging from the side of the metal posts, but this is the first time we have seen actual wiring on this third roof.

The underside of the mostly-complete roof is covered in blue circles, similar to a building toy. Similar to our previous update, exposed wires are still hanging from the roof panels on this first structure as well.

These wires are expected to connect to either additional lighting or electric fans, but nothing has been installed yet. Once the final fixtures are installed, we also expect the already-worn metal posts will get repainted before the extended seating’s opening.

The roof panels on the first structure have now been painted blue to match the flat panels on the nearby decorative structure. The top of the roof sits just underneath one of the previously installed platforms, where a Green Army Man looks out over the area.

Progress has also been made since our last update on the second roof structure. The main metal roof panels have now been installed, and a weatherproofing tarp has been laid over the top. This roof is expected to get additional panels and be colored blue, just like the first structure.

While it is possible Disney will let guests sit underneath this first structure once it is complete, guests will more likely have to wait for all three structures to be complete before the seating area is finally opened.

Toy Story Land has long been a source of complaints due to a lack of shade and dining locations. Additional shade structures were added to the queue of Slinky Dog Dash all the way back in 2019, while the long-awaited Roundup Rodeo BBQ alleviated the lack of table service dining in 2023. Nonetheless, it will be a major improvement for the land once there are more covered outdoor tables for the guests dining at Woody’s Lunch Box or families who just want a break from the sun.
