Construction Walls Expanded, More Themed Scrim at The Haunted Mansion in Magic Kingdom

Construction walls have expanded around the extended queue of The Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom. There’s also more themed scrim featuring the mansion in front of its facade.

The construction walls now completely block access to the former Mike Fink Keel Boats dock. This first section of the structure was previously open.

Though the Mike Fink Keel Boats closed in 2001, the dock’s multi-level building has been used as an extended queue for The Haunted Mansion. Construction walls went up around part of the building last summer after Rivers of America closed.

Walt Disney Imagineering filed a permit for the dock last month. The expansion of construction walls may mean work is imminent. Though the dock is not included in concept art for Piston Peak National Park — the Cars area replacing Rivers of America — the permit contracted is a theming company. It’s possible the dock will be re-themed and re-purposed, or it could still be demolished.

The Haunted Mansion Scrim

Meanwhile, there is work underway on The Haunted Mansion’s facade. Some themed scrim was installed yesterday and more was installed overnight, replacing plain green scrim. The themed scrim depicts The Haunted Mansion and its surrounding trees.

The scrim even includes the Caretaker and his dog in one corner.

There is still some green scrim on the sides of the scaffolding. This construction is reportedly for a small extension of The Haunted Mansion’s facade.

In January, Disney filed two construction permits for the ride’s address and crews cleared the lawn of plants. There had been signs of construction in the queue’s graveyard for months and this was expanded to the front of the mansion with scaffolding and scrim.

The Haunted Mansion remains open and operational. Watch our 4K ride POV video below.
