The Marvel meet and greets at Shanghai Disneyland are receiving an update as the new Avengers Deployment Vehicle has debuted.
Shanghai Disneyland Avengers Deployment Vehicle
The vehicle was announced in an Instagram post from Shanghai Disney Resort.
The post reads, “Our Marvel Super Heroes are ready to deploy for their first 2023 mission in their sleek new Avengers Deployment Vehicle, which was just unveiled at Shanghai Disneyland! Some of our favorite Super Heroes including Black Widow, Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Captain America arrived at Tomorrowland today for their special assignment. Avengers, assemble!”
A similar vehicle can be seen in Avengers Campus at Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris, while Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure has more of a Jeep-style vehicle.
The “616” denotes Earth-616, as the Marvel universe has many alternate universes. Earth-616 is the primary universe in the comics, and was revealed to be the primary universe of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.”
It features the Avengers emblem on the sides.
The vehicle will transport the characters as pictured above. Spider-Man and Black Widow are in the bed of the truck.
Guests can find the Avengers in the Marvel Universe area of the Gardens of Imagination. A Selfie Spot is available inside the building for photos with Captain America, Spider-Man, Ant-Man, and more super heroes. Iron Man received a new meet and greet costume as part of the 5th anniversary celebrations.
The post indicates that the Avengers Deployment Vehicle will be seen in Tomorrowland. The Marvel Universe is located near the entrance to Tomorrowland, but it’s unclear if the heroes will also be meeting guests outside of the Selfie Spot. While Shanghai Disney Resort is not set to receive an Avengers Campus, it is considered part of the larger international initiative as a “Mission Station.”
Shanghai Disney Resort celebrated its 5th anniversary in 2021, having opened to the public on June 16, 2016. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the strict “dynamic zero-COVID” strategy policies in China, the resort has been closed on and off since March 2020. It most recently reopened on December 8 after another brief closure.
It’s located in Pudong, Shanghai, China and is the only Disney park on mainland China as Hong Kong Disneyland is on Lantau Island. The resort is comprised of Shanghai Disneyland, the Disneytown shopping and dining district, Shanghai Disneyland Hotel, and Toy Story Hotel.
Shanghai Disneyland will be expanding with the addition of the new City of Zootopia land, which will include an attraction with police car ride vehicles and character audio animatronics. Check out our latest City of Zootopia construction update.
The resort recently announced an upcoming ticket price increase, which will take effect in June.
