REVIEW: Gingerbread Churro Balls are a Perfect Disney Springs Seasonal Snack

With all the holiday offerings at Disney Springs, it’s hard to find a treat that tickles the seasonal seeking tastebuds without also leaving you in sugar coma. Four Rivers Cantina Barbacoa Food Truck, parked near World of Disney, has found just the right balance with their warm and freshly fried Gingerbread Churro Balls and, upon the time of review, there wasn’t even a sign letting you know they were there!

Formed in quarter-size round nuggets, the gingerbread is rolled in sugar, sprinkled with a dash of powdered sugar, and served with a side of cream cheese frosting for your dipping pleasure. Though sweet, they never overpower on their own, leaving the cream cheese to add an extra buzz if the eater so desires. Crunchy on the outside yet soft in the middle, the balls are an excellent texture and just the right size for sharing or pairing with a cup of coffee.

Though one might think a chocolate or confectionary shop would host the best seasonal snack at Disney Springs, leave it up to this barbacoa food truck to ring in the holiday the right way. Just don’t forget to ask if you don’t see it on the menu!

Price: $6.38 (including tax)

REVIEW: Alien Pizza Planet Holiday Specialty Dishes at Disneyland

Red Rockett’s Pizza Port may well be the most righteously panned eating establishment in Disneyland’s extended, auspicious history. Anything, be it restaurant, restroom, or trashcan, which elicits sentiment for the marginal Mission to Mars attraction was, well, not good. That the recent Pixar overlay was fairly and instantly well received says a lot. The menu … Read more

REVIEW: Refreshment Corner Holiday Philly Cheesesteak Hot Dog at Disneyland

A specialty hot dog from a quick service restaurant may not be the crowning procurement of your Disneyland Resort visit. Considering what Disney is prone to release as one of their limited-time offerings, perhaps it ought to be. Guests of Disneyland’s Halloween Time festivities, who doubted the wisdom and allure of the Refreshment Corner Halloween Hot Dog learned … Read more

REVIEW: Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar Holiday Cocktails at Disney Springs

Ole Jock Lindsey, is getting into the Christmas spirit with two new cocktails at his Disney Springs hanger bar – one that hits the holiday spot while the other makes very little case to be a seasonal offering.

Jock’s Holiday Nog – $12.50

Crafted from Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Frangelico liqueur, Rumchata Caribbean Rum, vanilla and topped with peppermint candies, this holiday nog has a creamy taste without getting too sweet. Though not overly boozy on the front end, it does leave a little hazelnut tang on the tongue and would catch up with you quick as the vanilla eases you in to every sip. To be clear, this is not a peppermint drink – the flakes are all for show and smell, but, if you’re a fan of Rumchata, then this is the drink for you.

Jock Frost – $11.50

A mix of Malibu Rum, Rumchata, Blue Curacao liqueur and pineapple juice, this drink looks more like a winter wonderland than it tastes. With its fruit punch smell, perhaps the hope is to give you visions of Christmas office parties past, but the drink’s bold citrus flavors (the pineapple especially) feel more akin to a beach resort’s menu. The more traditionally seasonal Rumchata is completely lost in the Blue Curacao, but taken on its own terms, the cocktail is still good, especially if your lemon garnish is squeezed in.

So if you’re looking for a great holiday cocktail, Jock Lindsey’s Hanger Bar has that in its Holiday Nog. If you’re looking to forget about Christmas altogether, oddly the Jock Frost is for you.

REVIEW: Sprinkles Pumpkin Pecan Pie Cupcake at Disney Springs

Sprinkles Cupcakes marks the fall season with their Pumpkin Pecan Pie cupcake, a version of their pumpkin flavor with a gooey nut twist, but it proves almost too much of a good thing.

“We took our Pumpkin cupcake, cored it, filled it with our new pecan pie filling, then topped it with our marshmallow cream and gave it a nice hard toast,” states the company and, while the pecan flavors do contrast nicely with the marshmallow frosting, this is most assuredly more of a pumpkin dessert than pecan pie in the flavor department.

The pie filling itself is not overly sweet, but it is messy. When the cupcake was split for review, several nuts simply fell out. Due to this, it’s a cupcake that’s hard to share (as if you wanted to in the first place).

While attempting a complex hybrid of two Autumn standards, this cupcake doesn’t really do either justice and it’s perhaps due to the marshmallow frosting, which feels texturally out of place amongst the rest. Our recommendation is to get the original pumpkin cupcake. Sometimes less is more.

Both the pumpkin and pumpkin pecan pie cupcakes are available through Nov. 30th for $5.25 apiece.
