REVIEW: The Top 7 Items at Epcot Int. Festival of the Holidays

Pastrami on Rye at Epcot International Festival Of The Holidays

An Epcot festival leaves you with plenty of choices, but not all are worth your wallet (or the trek across World Showcase). So, for the Epcot International Festival of the Holidays, we’ve reviewed the majority of the items and have now whittled it down to the seven very best.

7. Bavaria Holiday Kitchen (Germany) – Cheese Fondue – $8.25

Served in a bread bowl with steamed baby vegetables and marble potatoes, this is the most amount of bread you’re going to get at the Festival and it’s a great dish to share. The cheese was good, but perhaps another half-ladle more would have helped finish off all the bread.

6. American Holiday Table – Chocolate Pecan Tart (Vegetarian) – $4.50

With whipped cream and caramel sauce, this tart is your answer to pecan pie at the Festival. With an excellent crust and plenty of cream, this is worth your time.

5. Sapphire Holiday Kitchen (Morocco) – Grilled Lamb Kefta Kebab – $8.00

This consists of spicy lamb with cucumber, olives, tomatoes, mint yogurt sauce, and harissa-cilantro dressing served on a whole wheat pita. With quite a nice portion of meat to go along with the pita, this is a rather substantial offering for the price with lots of flavor.

4. L’Chaim! Holiday Kitchen – Pastrami on Rye with House-made Pickles and Deli Mustard – $4.75

With well-seasoned pastrami and a lovely mustard, this was one of the best sandwiches at the Festival. It came with a great pickle as well. This is highly recommended.

3. Shanghai Holiday Kitchen – Celebration Barbecue Pork – $7.50

Served with steamed rice and a fortune cookie, this is not the barbecue you’re expecting and that’s a good thing! With a sweet glaze, the meat is an interesting combination with the rice and it was one of the more unique flavors we tried at the Festival.

2. Shi Wasu Holiday Kitchen (Japan) – Ichigo Milk Boba (Non-Alcoholic)  – $5.25

The best non-alcoholic drink at the Festival, this is a popping strawberry boba cream drink with Japanese calpico. It’s sort of a creamy punch. It was highly enjoyed and reminds us of a strawberry creamsicle.

1. Yukon Holiday Kitchen (Canada) – Maple Bûche de Noël (Vegetarian) – $4.50

With maple mousse rolled in gingerbread chiffon cake with cranberry sauce and pecan crumble, this isn’t only the best yule log we tried, but one of the best things we had at the whole Festival. Get it!

REVIEW: Get in the Holiday Spirits with Maple Bourbon Eggnog at Disney Springs

The Polite Pig is serving up a cup of cheer over at Disney Springs with their new Maple Bourbon Eggnog.

A boozy bit of fun, even for those who may not love eggnog, this cocktail is not overly heavy on cream or very thick. It goes down smooth, with the bourbon and eggnog playing equal companions to each other as long as you remember to stir every so often. Also, while a straw is provided, don’t skip out on the cinnamon and brown sugar rim, which adds a unique tang we’ve found nowhere else at Disney Springs.

Make sure to try this festival glass while it lasts. The eggnog will be available until the end of December.

REVIEW: Christmas Cupcakes Are A Mixed Bag From Sprinkles At Disney Springs

Sprinkles at Disney Springs is now serving up some festival flavors and, while a previous seasonal offering’s return is welcome, the newest treat might be too sweet for even a sugarplum fairy.

Holiday Gingerbread – $5.25

A returning favorite, this spiced ginger cake topped with cream cheese frosting and dusted with cinnamon sugar is a perfect gingerbread treat. The dense cake gives just the right chewy texture while the flavors play a mild balance to the frosting in a way that other Sprinkles cupcakes miss the mark on, causing them to become overly sweet. The only complaint is that the tiny gingerbread man garnish is so inedible I thought for a moment I wasn’t suppose to eat it at all. This is a very minor complaint for a cupcake that gets so much so right.

Christmas Cookie – $5.25

This consists of vanilla cake mixed with red and green sprinkles and topped with buttercream frosting (with more sprinkles) and a homemade sugar cookie. This cupcake really does taste like the Christmas treat you make at home and smother with frosting, but you have to think through what that actually means – it’s like stacking five sugar cookies on top of each other and taking a bite. It…is…sweet. If you can handle that, you might still be put off by the floury aftertaste it leaves stuck to your gums. Giving credit where credit is due, this certainly accomplishes its goal, but it just might be too much Christmas cheer for anybody.
