PHOTOS, VIDEO: Newly Expanded Cinderella Castle Pathway Now Open at the Magic Kingdom

Citizens of the Magic Kingdom! It is time. The beloved and much-missed Cinderella Castle pathway linking Fantasyland and Liberty Square has officially opened today and guests are traversing the newly-expanded, freshly-cemented walkway today at the Magic Kingdom.

We’ve been monitoring the status of this pathway since the expansion was announced, and since then, we’ve seen the entire process draw out with moat drainings, path closures, and finishing touches added (or subsequently removed, as you’ll see below) along the way.

Let’s take a look at the newly reopened pathway:

From Fantasyland, you walk over some cobblestones and onto light pink concrete.

It still looks pretty narrow over here, but the fresh concrete, new railings, and rock work looks very nice.

As you can see, there’s enough room for rows of strollers going in one direction while still leaving plenty of space for guests traveling in the other direction. Things used to be a bit more single-file in the ye olden days of the more narrow pathway.

“Trees will offer too much shade. Get rid of ’em!”

Closer to Sleepy Hollow, you can see some of the other changes. Earlier this week, we witnessed contractors plant some trees in those round formations on the ground, but it seems they stuck with just the lanterns instead, and poured concrete over the planter holes.

While they incorporated that same little recess into the wall as before, no bench is in its place, and it’s more of like a stroller stop/outlook now.

Clearly the project isn’t quite finished yet, as dirt remains on the side of the moat, which desperately needs some landscaping, and final touches have yet to be fully completed on the sides of the new wall.

Still, the new rockwork and faux brick facade look great against the fresh concrete and Liberty Square aesthetic.

We hope this helps alleviate the crowds and bottlenecking in the area, especially with larger crowds expected for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in the coming weeks.

  1. how long before the moat is refilled? while i’m glad for the pathway to be open, for nicer photos i’m hoping the moat will be refilled in about 10 days??

  2. Shame they removed the trees. They were a nice touch and would have helped provide much needed shade in that area.

  3. My guess is that since the trees were along the railing side of the walkway, they blocked the view of the castle.
