REVIEW: Special Set for Disney Halloween at Tokyo Disneyland’s Plaza Pavilion

It’s time for Disney Halloween at Tokyo Disney Resort! And one of my favorite parts of any Tokyo Disney Resort event is the array of snacks and food items available! In this series of reviews, I’ll be detailing every single new snack and counter-service item. Plaza Pavilion is consistently one of Tokyo Disneyland’s best eateries. Here, they combine good food with excellent views of Cinderella Castle and the parade route to create a spectacular experience! So, there’s no doubt I was excited to review the new Special Set themed to Halloween! Let’s take a look at what makes this set so special!

Special Set – ¥1940 ($17.95)

Plaza Pavilion is a buffeteria, like another one of my favorites, Tokyo DisneySea’s Cafe Portofino (which also features an excellent view). That means you can order a special set, or pick pre-made items out a la carte.

Before I get in to the food, let’s talk about how incredible this view is! I chose to dine during Dreaming Up!, which is the incredible daytime parade here at Tokyo Disneyland. Unfortunately Mickey looked away right as I was trying to snap a shot. Oh well, maybe next time!

See that silverware set in the middle? While I was paying, Cast Members laid out everything I needed for me. Talk about incredible service! Our Cast Members are cream of the crop, and go out of the way for Guests whenever possible.

Meat Patty with Demi-Glace Sauce

First, we have the Meat Patty & Cheese with Demi-Glace Sauce. There’s also some nice steamed vegetables and sweet potato fries. And the cheese looks like Jack Skellington! How cute is that? The meat patty was nice and piping hot, mixed well with the sauce, and wasn’t fatty at all! Plus, the cheese combines well and looks good while doing it! My only complaint wa sthat the top of the patty is a bit dry and needs to be dipped in the sauce as well. Additionally, the sweet potato fries make a nice addition, with a light spicy kick. Doubly so if you dip them in the demi-glace sauce! As for the steamed vegetables, however, they tasted particularly bad. The onions were particularly unrecognizable, but they all just lacked flavor and tasted like mush. Fortunately, those were the low point of this meal.

Cream of Bacon-Vegetable Soup

I only had one word for this soup, and it was “incredible”! The bacon inside is neither too crispy, nor ridiculously chewy. The proportion between bacon and the vegetables was equal, and the soup itself was nice and creamy. I would honestly eat this on its own.

Bread

TDR HalloweenFood31

Like at Horizon Bay Restaurant and most buffeterias here at Tokyo Disney Resort, a choice of bread or rice is given, and I tend to go for the bread, as I don’t particularly care for the rice here. Here, the bread was kept in a warmer and helped make the butter simple to spread. It’s the same bread with a Mickey imprint served across the resort, but I liked that it was kept warm and served fresh here.

Pumpkin Mousse Cake

TDR HalloweenFood30

I will open by saying that I prefer the Pumpkin Cake that comes with a souvenir plate, but that’s just because it reminds me very much of pumpkin pie. But that doesn’t at all mean you should discount this dessert! It’s very fluffy (but not spongy), almost as if the entire thing is whipped cream of different flavors. The pumpkin mousse part mixes incredibly well with the fruity sauce next to it too! That brown stuff on top is mont blanc, and it tastes like a less-sweet brown sugar. I’m not a huge fan, personally, but Japanese people like it. This was delicious, but it seemed like it was a bit light compared to other desserts in these big sets.

Overall, this was an excellent meal. Even more so if you choose to dine during a parade! I know the words to Dreaming Up by heart, so singing, clapping, and dancing in my seat with a fork in my hand earned me some strange looks and laughs from passers by. But the embarrassment I faced was completely overshadowed by enjoying a delicious meal at Plaza Pavilion! Come on in through October 31st to get this delectable Special Set!
