Earlier this year, Disney confirmed that guest rooms at the Contemporary Resort were officially being refurbished, though they did not divulge any details. This refurbishment was scheduled to occur from April 2021 until September 2021, limiting capacity at the resort.

It seems, however, that refurbishment has begun ahead of schedule. A room in the main tower now has its balcony covered. We have seen this before during the refurbishment of rooms at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.

The tan curtain may not clash with the Contemporary’s exterior, but it certainly isn’t pretty to look at.

So what will the new rooms look like? Well, they will be themed to Pixar’s The Incredibles.

We reported back in 2019 that Disney was testing rooms themed to The Incredibles. While those rooms were gutted and the hallway theming removed, the possibility remains.

With the confirmation of rooms at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort receiving Moana theming, these changes don’t seem like much of a stretch (not for Elastigirl, anyway).

Would you rather stay in a room themed to Moana or The Incredibles? Let us know down below in the comments!

  1. I would like to stay in the Incredibles because I love Incredibles. The Incredibles is better than Moana!

  2. It would be ok to add this IP if the theming is subtle. Having mid century modern furniture would be keeping with that time period too. Moana is ugly at the Poly and definitely not subtle!

  3. I would chose Moana. I favor Polynesian. Contemporary seems cold and not overly themed. The rooms look like they could be anywhere in America. Perhaps the Incredible rooms will bring in that Disney Magic. One of the things that the old deluxe hotels have is that the sink is in the main bathroom. A vanity outside of the bathroom would help in getting ready in the morning.

  4. I like them both. I’m a big fan of both “retro contemporary” styling like the Incredibles art shown in the hallway photo, and of colorful, kitschy Polynesian tiki styling. I know some think the Moana retheme at the Poly is overly character-heavy, but I think that’s just because of the initial promo photos that had a huge TV screen with Moana in the foreground, and _only_ showed the Moana-inspired elements in the room. If you look at the photos of the rooms from the Disney website (where the TV is blank and the pictures show the whole room instead of just the Moana-inspired elements), the IP is much more subtle. I hope to stay in both eventually, although it will probably be as part of split stays with less expensive places. Disney’s room pricing is unfortunately scraping the ceiling (even with seasonal discounts) of what we’re willing to pay.

  5. I liked the rooms the way they were. My son and I stayed at the Contemporary several times, the Polynesian once and Shades of the Green twice.
