Over two years after KiteTails ended at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, crews have removed the show’s launch dock from the Discovery River.

A calm lake with overcast skies, surrounded by trees and vegetation. Wooden posts and a small dock are visible along the shore.

Metal pilings remain in the water where the dock used to be. There’s also a platform on one side leading down from the amphitheater seating. Gates block guest access to the platform.

The dock was constructed before the 2021 debut of KiteTails. There were two versions of the lagoon show, inspired by “The Lion King” and “The Jungle Book”. The larger-than-life character kites were launched from this dock in the water in front of Anandapur Ice Cream Truck. In the show, the kites would “crash land” in the unused stands.

KiteTails was plagued with issues, including shredded kites from trees. The shows were cut to be shorter and performed on an unscheduled rolling basis, but KiteTails ultimately ended in September 2022.
