This Joey Chou-inspired abstract illustration captures the whimsical essence of a theme park, featuring stylized castles, teacups, carousel horses, and a flying elephant in pastel hues. It evokes the playful fantasy similar to that surrounding Disney's Contemporary Resort.

Joey Chou Shares New Art for Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

Joey Chou has shared a look at some of the artwork he created for the newly renovated rooms at Bay Lake Tower.

Daytime Cinderella Castle

The art piece features Cinderella Castle in a mid-century modern style, featuring bold colors with striking white in contrast. The art by Chou appears to be inspired by Mary Blair’s iconic style, which is featured heavily at the resort. This piece is on the exterior wall of the new murphy bed added to the room.

Fireworks, Cinderella Castle

On the interior wall of the murphy bed is a nighttime view of Cinderella Castle with fireworks exploding in the sky. The same mid-century modern style is mimicked in this piece.

Contemporary Resort, Monorail

In a different room, the exterior of the murphy bed is a look at the Monorail, Contemporary Resort, and Bay Lake Tower, itself. This mid-century modern piece is striking with blues, reds, and shades of orange.

Nighttime in Tomorrowland

It is not clear if this piece of Tomorrowland is the interior of the above murphy bed, but it is one of the options and offers a nighttime view of Space Mountain and TRON Lightcycle / Run which can likely be seen from some Bay Lake Tower villas.

Fantasyland

There is a Fantasyland-inspired art piece above the bench in this seating area in the room. It offers an interpretation of Cinderella Castle, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Prince Charming Regal Carrousel, and more Fantasyland attractions.

Tomorrowland

In this framed piece on the wall next to the main bed, Buzz Lightyear is flying over Tomorrowland with views of Space Mountain, Astro Orbiter, and TRON Lightcycle / Run.

Liberty Square

In the bathroom, there is a piece dedicated to Liberty Square. Haunted Mansion stands in the background while the Liberty Square Riverboat sails upon the Rivers of America. Other Liberty Square buildings are present in the background.

Bay Lake Tower, home to the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) villas at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, is undergoing a room refurbishment. Late last year, we spotted construction crew members moving part of the bedframes in and revealing some of this artwork. Then, early this year, we were able to get a first look at the rooms.

The year-long refurbishment was announced in April 2024, with work starting in September. It’s set to be complete in September 2025. Guest rooms in the main building were redone with Incredibles theming in 2021. Details for the DVC villas had previously been unannounced; however, it appears now that the rooms will be themed to Magic Kingdom. area attractions.

Bay Lake Tower opened at Walt Disney World in 2009, and is home to 429 DVC villas. It connects to the original building via a foot bridge, allowing Bay Lake Tower guests to utilize the monorail transportation.
