A man in a dark robe stands beside a robot in a dimly lit room, reminiscent of Luke Skywalker's adventures. On the right, a vibrant fantasy landscape unfolds, akin to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland, with a spaceship and illuminated rock formations.

Disney shared videos and photos of Luke Skywalker and the new projection show both debuting at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge on Friday for Season of the Force at Disneyland.

Luke Skywalker Meet and Greet

A person in a black cloak stands next to a bipedal robot with a blue and white dome in an industrial-looking setting with crates, evoking the atmosphere of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. It's as if Luke Skywalker might appear at any moment amid this Disneyland-like scene.

An Instagram video and new photo show Luke Skywalker in his all-black “Return of the Jedi” look, including a leather glove covering his right robot hand. He’s joined by R2-D2.

Luke has never appeared in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and R2-D2 has only made rare appearances. This young version of the character is anachronistic to the time period of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, which is generally set between episodes 8 and 9 of the “Star Wars” sequels, when Luke is an old man.

That said, Din Djarin and Fennec Shand from “The Mandalorian” (set soon after the events of episode 6) have appeared in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. However, those characters could ostensibly still be around by the sequel era and we don’t know what they would look like at that time.

Luke’s appearance marks a major break from the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge timeline, which was always looser at Disneyland than Walt Disney World. The later had stricter rules due to Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, but the hotel is closed and will become an office building, so there may be more timeline breaks on both coasts in the near future. This includes the upcoming Mandalorian overlay for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.

Shadows of Memory: A Skywalker Saga

“Shadows of Memory: A Skywalker Saga” is a new nightly projection show on the spires of Batuu. It will take guests “on a storytelling adventure across the galaxy” and performances will continue once “Season of the Force” concludes.

The preview video features a projected figure — seemingly the Lore-weaver Tohan Lege who introduces “Fire of the Rising Moons — inviting guests to join him around the “fire of memory for a tale of prophecy.” Projected images show different moments from the Skywalker Saga.

The projection show is in addition to “Fire of the Rising Moons,” which is a “Star Wars” version of Disneyland’s nighttime fireworks show. It will continue on select nights and its dessert party is returning for Season of the Force.

At Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, a sci-fi themed amusement park at night, a detailed, illuminated spaceship stands in the foreground against a rocky, colorful landscape. You might even imagine Luke Skywalker embarking on an intergalactic adventure among the stars.

Season of the Force is the annual “Star Wars” celebration at Disneyland, from March 28 to May 11, 2025. Read more about this year’s offerings.
