The “Magic of Possibility” is gaining new momentum this morning at the ever-changing EPCOT, with a new permit filed for “Project G”, also known as Project Gamma—the name Imagineering uses when they refer to the project involving the complete reimagining of the entrance of EPCOT, as well as the center of Future World… or should I say, World Celebration.
The address listed on the permit is for the former Innoventions East, former home of the now-gutted Mouse Gear and Electric Umbrella. These two locations are set to be replaced by similar merchandise and food & beverage concepts after closing earlier this year for an extensive remodeling.
You might be wondering what’s next for the upcoming newly redesigned Mouse Gear store. Concept art for the remodeled Mouse Gear was revealed at last year’s D23 Expo. The store is to be slightly downsized, with the exterior to return to the clean shape of the original CommuniCore structure. Display cases along the store exterior will also be swapped with windows to let in additional light. Disney is stating that Club Cool is in their “future plans” for the park, but that haven’t elaborated on exactly what that means—we do know, however, that the space adjacent to Mouse Gear within the breezeway is set to be the new location for the soft-drink sampling space.
Over at the Electric Umbrella, a new food & beverage concept will feature bright and airy indoor dining. A futuristic world map will line the walls of this quick-service eatery, which will have hand-tossed pizza on the menu.
Despite cancellations and changes in scope for numerous projects on the EPCOT docket, we’re seeing a renewed push towards the park’s reimagining, with newly-installed lucite pylons at the upcoming retro-inspired fountain, work resuming on the “Harmonious” barges, and plenty of construction on the upcoming Play! Pavilion and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.

Is it still going to be the Electric Umbrella or will it be named something else?
