Permits Filed for “Project Gamma” As Work Continues on New Starbucks, Club Cool, Counter Service Restaurant, and Mouse Gear Store at EPCOT

The “Magic of Possibility” is gaining new momentum this morning at the ever-changing EPCOT, with a new permit filed for “Project G”, also known as Project Gamma—the name Imagineering uses when they refer to the project involving the complete reimagining of the entrance of EPCOT, as well as the center spine of Future World… or should I say, World Celebration.

The address listed on the permit is for the former Innoventions East, former home of the now-gutted Mouse Gear and Electric Umbrella. These two locations are set to be replaced by similar merchandise and food & beverage concepts after closing earlier this year for an extensive remodeling.

You might be wondering what’s next for the upcoming newly redesigned Mouse Gear store. Concept art for the remodeled Mouse Gear was revealed at last year’s D23 Expo. The store is to be slightly downsized, with the exterior to return to the clean shape of the original CommuniCore structure. Display cases along the store exterior will also be swapped with windows to let in additional light. Disney is stating that Club Cool is in their “future plans” for the park—we know that the space adjacent to Mouse Gear within the breezeway is set to be the new location for the soft-drink sampling space.

Over at the Electric Umbrella, a new food and beverage concept will feature bright and airy indoor dining. A futuristic world map will line the walls of this quick-service eatery, which will serve hand-tossed pizza among its new menu items. An adjacent Starbucks will also be built here.

Despite cancellations and changes in scope for numerous projects on the EPCOT docket, we’re seeing a renewed push towards the park’s reimagining, with newly-installed lucite pylons at the upcoming retro-inspired fountain, work resuming on the “Harmonious” barges, and plenty of construction on the upcoming Play! Pavilion and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.

  1. Thanks for the update. I needed cheering up this morning and some positive news from Epcot was very welcome. I hope to visit again in 2022 from the UK and Epcot is my favourite park.
Keep up the positive news. 8o)
