Painting of the Walt Disney Studios billboard and the theater for “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” in Disney’s Hollywood Studios is complete as part of a reimagining of Animation Courtyard into the Walt Disney Studios Courtyard.
Walt Disney Studios Billboard

Mickey was added to the billboard mural a few days ago. Since then, details were added to the “Walt Disney” lettering and the rest of the design was cleaned up.

There was once a “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” billboard on this soundstage wall, but it was removed before “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” opened. This design is based on a real billboard from Disney’s Hyperion Studio, where production took place from 1926 to 1940, pictured below.
“The Little Mermaid” Theater

The billboard mural is on “The Little Mermaid” soundstage, which will be renamed Studio Theater. It was painted shades of beige earlier this year. Recently, the columns lining the building were painted red.

Now painting of the walls around the theater’s exit is complete. These were also painted beige with red at the bottom, matching the rest of the building’s new color scheme. “Wet Paint” signs were on the exit doors Friday morning, May 1, before the show opened.

Construction walls came down from this area earlier this week, revealing new planters and trees.

“The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” has remained open during the courtyard’s reimagining.
Walt Disney Studios Courtyard

The Walt Disney Studios Courtyard will have more green space, pavement featuring character autographs and handprints, and character meet and greets. Guests will be able to meet more characters inside The Magic of Disney Animation, a new version of an opening-day experience. The Magic of Disney Animation will also be home to the Olaf Draws art class and an Alice in Wonderland playground.

The facade of The Magic of Disney Animation, including a giant sorcerer hat, is based on the Roy E. Disney Animation Building at Walt Disney Studios in California.

Next door, in the newly renamed Stage 1, will be the new Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! This stage show will open on May 26. The courtyard is expected to open on the same date but The Magic of Disney Animation will open later.
