Disney Cruise Line was founded in 1995, but set out on its first voyage in 1998. The cruise line currently has eight ships: Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, Disney Destiny, and Disney Adventure.

Though you may want to choose your Disney Cruise Line sailing based on the destinations, you may also want to consider the ships themselves. Let’s break down the major details of each ship.

Disney Magic

Disney Magic docked at Castaway Cay

The Disney Magic was Disney Cruise Line’s first ship and set the standard for future ships. The design was inspired by classic ocean liners but with a Disney twist. Instead of the usual black hull, the Magic was given a “Monica Blue” hull so dark it looks black in some lighting. The name “Monica Blue” came from a Cast Member on the design team who wore blue pants to work one day. The pants were the perfect color, so they re-created it and named it after the Cast Member, Monica.

In order to evoke Mickey Mouse with the design, Disney wanted yellow lifeboats. However, regulations state lifeboats must be orange. Disney got special permission from the U.S. Coast Guard for their boats to be yellow. The iconic design was topped off with two red smokestacks, each featuring the logo for Disney Cruise Line: a white Mickey head against three blue waves. All Disney Cruise Line ships have so far followed this same approximate design and color scheme.

Each Disney Cruise Line ship has a godmother (or godchildren), which is a long-standing maritime tradition. The godmother is usually present at the ship’s christening and may be the one to crack a bottle of Champagne against the hull, although that tradition has mostly fallen out of practice. Patricia Disney, Roy E. Disney‘s first wife, was the godmother of Disney Magic.

While later Disney Cruise Line ships would be christened days before their maiden voyage, the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder were both christened months later.

Basics

  • Class: Magic
  • Passenger capacity: approximately 2,700
  • Staterooms: 875
  • Entered service: July 30, 1998
  • Christened: September 16, 1998
  • Refurbished: 2013 & 2023
  • Shipyard: Fincantieri
  • Gross tonnage: 83,969 GT
  • Length: 984 ft / 300 m

  • Draft: 25.3 ft / 7.7 m
  • Decks: 11
  • Speed: 21.5 knots (23.5 knots max)

Theming

Each Disney Cruise Line ship has a special character in a medallion image on the bow of the ship, a character statue in the atrium (or Grand Hall), and a giant character figure “painting” the ship’s name on the stern. These are the Disney Magic characters:

  • Bow character: Sorcerer Mickey
  • Atrium character: Helmsman Mickey
  • Stern character: Goofy
Captain Mickey statue and Lumiere's entrance in Disney Magic atrium

Disney Magic has an Art Deco design. The atrium originally had a glass chandelier designed by Dale Chihuly, but this was replaced during the 2013 refurbishment. The atrium also originally had two staircases, but one was knocked out, and Disney Cruise Line ships now consistently have a single atrium staircase.

Dining

Character dining at Rapunzel's Royal Table on the Disney Magic cruise ship.

Each Disney Cruise Line ship has three unique table-service restaurants. There’s always an upscale restaurant off the atrium. These days, at least one restaurant also includes some form of entertainment.

  • Rapunzel’s Royal Table: Celebrate Rapunzel’s birthday as she, Flynn, and other friends perform songs from Tangled. Featuring German-inspired cuisine.
  • Animator’s Palate: A version of Animator’s Palate is on the first four Disney Cruise Line ships. Each features screen-based entertainment. On 7-night Magic sailings, this entertainment involves guests drawing a cartoon character, which gets animated for a climactic, musical spectacular. On other sailings, guests join Sorcerer Mickey to learn about the evolution of animation. Featuring Pacific Island, Asian, and Californian cuisine.
  • Lumiere’s: Themed to “Beauty and the Beast,” Lumiere’s features French cuisine.

Disney schedules your dinners for you, so you’re guaranteed to visit each restaurant. But you can pay extra for an even fancier meal at Palo: “Savor classic Northern Italian cooking with a modern twist at this chic adult-exclusive restaurant—it’s a feast for the senses!”

There are also several poolside quick-service venues and Cabanas, a buffet.

Entertainment

On deck, “Mickey’s Sail-A-Wave Party!… A Bon Voyage Celebration” is performed on the first day of each sailing aboard the Disney Magic.

Disney Cruise Line was the first cruise line to launch fireworks at sea — and is currently the only cruise line to do so. Every Disney Cruise Line ship has a Pirate Night featuring a deck stage show and fireworks presentation. Disney Magic also has the Frozen Deck Party on select 7-night sailings.

Disney Cruise Line features several original Broadway-style stage shows, which sometimes rotate to different ships. Each ship has three shows at a time. At least one is always inspired by a classic Disney movie, while another is an original story for Disney Cruise Line.

Currently (as of April 2026), Disney Magic has Twice Charmed: An Original Twist on the Cinderella Story, Tangled: The Musical, and Disney Dreams – An Enchanted Classic.

Fitness, Sports, & Recreation

The fitness centers of Disney Cruise Line ships include the following:

Pools, Slides, & Splash Areas

Disney Magic’s family pool is Goofy’s Pool, while the Quiet Cove Pool is the adults-only pool.

The AquaLab is a splash-and-play area for kids, featuring the Twist ‘n’ Spout water slide. The Twist ‘n’ Spout is a 250-ft double-looping slide. Guests must be at least 38″ tall to ride, and adult supervision is required for guests under the age of 16.

The ship’s bigger water slide is the AquaDunk, accessible at the forward funnel on deck 13. This body slide starts you 37 ft above the decks below, takes you over the side of the ship on a 20 ft curvature, and plummets a total of 212 ft. Guests must be at least 48″ tall to ride.

Youth Areas

On all the ships, little ones from 6 months to 3 years old (or starting from 1 year old on Transatlantic, Hawai’i, and Panama Canal itineraries) can play and nap in “it’s a small world” Nursery. The nursery does cost extra, starting at $10/hour for the first child, and reservations are required.

Just like at Disney Parks, young guests can become princesses or pirates at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique aboard Disney Cruise Line ships.

Disney’s Oceaneer Club and Disney’s Oceaneer Lab are for children ages 3 to 12. Here are the rooms of Disney’s Oceaneer Club on the Disney Magic:

The Disney Wish was the first Disney Cruise Line ship not to feature Mickey as the bow medallion character. Instead, Disney Wish was the first to feature Captain Minnie.

  • Bow character: Captain Minnie
  • Grand Hall characters: Cinderella, Jaq, Gus, and Lucifer
  • Stern characters: Rapunzel and Pascal

The Disney Wish has a “Grand Hall” instead of an atrium. Disney considered this ship their castle at sea, giving it a grander fairytale design.

Check out over 200 Easter eggs on the Disney Wish.

Dining

Two of the three main restaurants of Disney Wish are split into two dining rooms, the first Disney Cruise Line ship to do this.

  • Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure: Celebrate the engagement of Queen Anna and Kristoff with live music and Norwegian-inspired dishes.
  • Worlds of Marvel – “Avengers: Quantum Encounter”: Worlds of Marvel is split into two identical dining rooms, with food inspired by the different locations and organizations of the Marvel universe.
  • 1923: Dine on Californian cuisine in either the Walt Disney room or Roy Disney room, which both feature sketches, props, animation cels, and other items representing animated Disney films.

Palo was revamped into Palo Steakhouse on Disney Wish: “Inspired by Cogsworth from ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ this adult-exclusive restaurant strikes a balance between time-honored Italian fare and modern steakhouse dining.”

Next to Palo Steakhouse is Enchanté by Chef Arnaud Lallement, another adult-exclusive restaurant featuring French fare.

The poolside quick-service dining is Mickey & Friends Festival of Foods, featuring Mickey’s Smokestack Barbecue, Daisy’s Pizza Pies, Goofy’s Grill, Sweet Minnie’s Ice Cream, and Donald’s Cantina. Instead of Cabanas, the Disney Wish buffet is Marceline Market.

Entertainment

“Set Sail on a Wish” is a unique sail-away party aboard the Disney Wish on the first day of each sailing.

The stage shows on the Disney Wish are Disney Seas the Adventure starring Minnie and Goofy, The Little Mermaid (brand new to the ship), and Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular.

Like the Dream and Fantasy, the Wish has an interactive game to play all over the ship: Disney Uncharted Adventure. This game is played using the Disney Cruise Line app and has guests saving the Wishing Star from Disney Villains.

The Senses Fitness Center includes:

  • Cardiovascular equipment, treadmills, and ellipticals

Hero Zone is Disney Wish’s version of a sports deck. It has free-play sports throughout the cruise, as well as the Incredi-Games and Jack-Jack’s Incredible Diaper Dash.

Spa & Salons

Senses Spa offers similar personal care treatments to those on the other ships. The Disney Wish also includes Hook’s Barbery, inspired by Captain Hook, and Untangled Salon, inspired by Rapunzel. They offer standard salon services.

Salon and spa treatments are an additional fee.

Pools, Slides, & Splash Areas

The AquaMouse water slide aboard the Disney Wish is the “first attraction at sea.” Unlike the AquaDuck on other Disney Cruise Line ships, the AquaMouse incorporates two original stories from the animated world of Mickey Mouse: Scuba Scramble and Swiss Meltdown. Kids under 7 must ride with someone 14 years of age or older. Guests 7 years or older may ride alone. Guests must be 42″ or taller to ride with someone, and single riders must be 54″ or taller.

Instead of a couple of big pools, Disney Wish has several small pools. The largest family pools are Mickey’s Pool and Minnie’s Pool. These are on deck 11, and both can be covered during shows like “Set Sail on a Wish.” Mickey’s Pool is actually built into the deck stage, while Minnie’s pool is across the deck and is covered to create more standing room.

The smaller pools on elevated platforms of deck 11 are Daisy’s Pool and Pluto’s Pool, while Donald’s Pool and Goofy’s Pool are just above them on deck 12.

Chip ‘n Dale’s Pool is on deck 14, between the Aurora and Briar Rose royal suites. Like all the other ships, Quiet Cove Pool (deck 13) is an adults-only retreat.

For kids up to 6 years old, the Toy Story Splash Zone and Slide-a-saurus Rex are on deck 12.

Youth Areas

Little ones from 6 months to 3 years old (or starting from 1 year old on Transatlantic, Hawai’i, and Panama Canal itineraries) can play and nap in “it’s a small world” Nursery. The nursery does cost extra, starting at $10/hour for the first child, and reservations are required.

Just like at Disney Parks, young guests can become princesses or pirates at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique aboard Disney Cruise Line ships.

Disney Wish combines Disney’s Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab into one destination for kids ages 3 to 12. Here are the rooms of Disney’s Oceaneer Club on Disney Wish:

Marvel Super Hero Academy
Young “recruits” can train to be the next generation of Super Heroes at this high-tech Avengers command post.

  • Put your new suits and skills to the test in a virtual battle with “Avengers: Mission Training,” a gesture-based technology game.

Star Wars: Cargo Bay
Learn what it takes to be an intergalactic creature handler as you manage a mischievous menagerie of exotic beings from across the galaxy, including a porg, Loth-cat, worrt, and more.

Throughout the cruise, you’ll track and study creatures on a series of special assignments using augmented reality-enabled data pads. But there’s more to this job than meets the Dianoga eye. You’ll be tasked with an important mission to deliver a pair of secret stowaways—Rey and Chewbacca—back to the Resistance!

Fairytale Hall
Join some of your favorite Disney Princesses and Frozen Queens in three fantastical activity rooms fit for royalty. Let your creativity shine at Rapunzel’s Art Studio, bring stories to life at Belle’s Library, and test newfound icy powers at Anna and Elsa’s Sommerhus.

Discover the secrets of world-renowned Disney Imagineers—the creative minds behind Disney theme parks, resorts, and cruise ships—with hands-on activities and inventive experiments.

Specially designed for the youngest sailors at Disney’s Oceaneer Club, Mickey and Minnie Captain’s Deck is a nautical playground inspired by the colors, icons, and magic of Disney Cruise Line.

  • Little cadets can enjoy maritime-themed physical activities and sensory-style games—as well as play time with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse themselves.
  • At select times throughout the voyage, the space will be open to little ones’ families for group play, and toddlers from “it’s a small world” nursery will also get dedicated access to the club to explore, learn, and play with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.

Vibe, Edge, and The Hideaway host various activities aimed at tweens/teens both inside the youth clubs and throughout the ship, including pool parties and lunches.

Nightclubs & Lounges

Unlike the other Disney Cruise Line ships, Disney Wish doesn’t have nightclubs grouped in one adult district. Keg & Compass and Triton Lounge are next to each other on deck 5. Luna is a two-story lounge on decks 4 and 5. The Cinderella-themed Nightingale’s, Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge, and The Princess and the Frog-inspired The Bayou are on deck 3, near the Grand Hall.

The Rose is a Beauty and the Beast-inspired lounge off Palo Steakhouse and Enchanté. Currents and the Cove Bar are near the pools.

There are several highly themed bars and lounges on the Disney Destiny. These include the Pirates of the Caribbean-themed Cask & Cannon bar on deck 5, The Triton Lounge (also on the Wish) on deck 5, Sanctum, which is inspired by Doctor Strange on deck 3, and Cruella de Vil-themed De Vil’s, which is also on deck 3.

Cask & Cannon and Triton Lounge are behind Saga, a 2-story family lounge that takes subtle design inspiration from Black Panther. It’s an entertainment hub offering trivia, music performances, special shows, bingo, and more. At night, it becomes an adult-exclusive lounge with a bar.

The cafés on the Disney Destiny are Café Megara, themed to Hercules on deck 4, and Café Merida, inspired by Brave on deck 5. Guests can also enjoy Cove Café and Cove Bar, which is on deck 13 near the adults-only Quiet Cove area.

At the heart of the ship is the Disney Imagination Garden, consisting of a courtyard and a large stage. This open-air space acts as the ship’s atrium. Up the steps is the courtyard, which includes trees designed to look like storybook cut-outs. A topiary of Sorcerer Mickey is in this area, along with a seating area. The storybook castle artwork behind the stage is inspired by castles from Disney stories and theme parks.

  • Bow character: Captain Minnie
  • Atrium character: Snow White
  • Stern characters: Captain Mickey and Captain Minnie

Dining

Rotational dining on the Disney Adventure is a little different as it offers six restaurants for rotational dining instead of three. These six restaurants are themed in pairs, so you will experience one or the other during a sailing. For instance, Animator’s Palate and Animator’s Table are in the same category.

  • Hollywood Spotlight Club: This venue has a 1930s glitz and glam feel. It offers a dinner show with Disney characters and live music.
  • Navigator’s Club: With a nautical-inspired theme, guests can enjoy musical acts and interactions with Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Daisy.
  • Animator’s Palate: On the Adventure, guests of Animator’s Palate join Sorcerer Mickey to learn about the evolution of animation.
  • Animator’s Table: The sister restaurant to Animator’s Palate, this restaurant also celebrates the magic of Disney (and Pixar) animation.
  • Enchanted Summer Restaurant: Enchanted Summer has two different themed dining rooms, Maximus (Tangled) and Olaf (Frozen), for each film’s sidekicks.
  • Pixar Market Restaurant: Pixar Market Restaurant features playful nods to beloved Pixar movies like Inside Out, Cars, Finding Nemo, Monsters University, RatatouilleTurning Red, and The Incredibles, as well as short films like Lou

With Italian cuisine, Palo is also offered on this ship. It is an adults-only location and is celestially themed in line with the film Luca. Additionally, the ship offers Mike & Sulley’s Flavors of Asia with a full-service Japanese steakhouse, Teppanyaki room, Omakase-style dining, and an outdoor sushi and sashimi experience.

Stitch’s Ohana Grill

Preston Mack

Stitch’s Ohana Grill is the first Lilo and Stitch-themed restaurant. It is located on Deck 10 Aft in the Discovery Reef. While other restaurants have Lilo and Stitch (ie, ‘Ohana at Disney World’s Polynesian), this is the first restaurant that is actually specifically themed to the movie itself.

The poolside quick-service dining includes Gramma Tala’s Kitchen, Mowgli’s Eatery, Eye Scream Treats, and Cosmic Kebabs. Instead of Cabanas, the Disney Wish buffet is Pixar Market.

Entertainment

On the first day of sailing, guests can enjoy the “Let’s Set Sail” show, hosted by Genie. A young guest is chosen to rub the magic lamp, releasing the Genie and opening the show. He welcomes guests before kicking off a dance number set to original music. Mickey and Friends initially appear on screen before joining the Genie onstage. They’re later joined by other Disney characters that different experiences on the ship, like the Toy Story pool area and Avengers Assemble! show.

While the Disney Adventure doesn’t have a Pirates Night, it does have a special The Lion King-themed fireworks at sea show.

Guests can also enjoy the Baymax Super Exercise Expo. This is part live entertainment show and part exercise class, superhero style!

The stage shows on the Disney Adventure are Avengers Assemble!, Duffy and the Friend Ship, Remember, Disney Seas The Adventure, and Moana: Call of the Sea.

Spa & Salons

To note: the Disney Adventure is the only Disney Cruise Line ship without a Senses Spa location.

Opulence Spa – Elemis at Sea and Infinite Bliss Spa – Elemis at Sea offer the following personal care services:

  • Spa Treatments: massages, body wraps, facials, aromatherapy, and more
  • Salon Appointments: Bliss has hair, makeup, and nail appointments in addition to spa experiences.
  • Luxurious Spa Suites: private rejuvenation destination for individuals, couples, and families

Spa and salon treatments are an additional fee.

Pools, Slides, & Splash Areas

The pool offerings are a little different on board the Disney Adventure, with fewer options than other ships. Disney Adventure has a Toy Story-inspired pool area with slides, two splash zones, and more as part of Toy Story Place. One of seven themed areas on the ship, Toy Story Place spans the center of the upper decks.

The Flying Saucer Splash Zone consists of “extraterrestrial” water features like rockets, buckets, pop jets, and a mini slide. It’s topped with two UFOs and Little Green Men. The giant dump bucket resembles a cup from Pizza Planet.

Across from Flying Saucer Splash Zone are Woody and Jessie’s Wild Slides. They are in the iconic red and yellow colors of Woody and Jessie, with sheriff badges and horseshoes printed on the red slide.

Families can also enjoy the Sunnyside Family Pool. This long pool has rows of deck chairs and several whirlpool spas nearby. For toddlers, there is the Toy Story Splash Pad. Just like on the Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, and Disney Destiny, this features Woody, Buzz, and other Toy Story characters as giant rubber bath toys.

Youth Areas

The nursery is for kids 6 months old to 3 years of age. Themed to the classic Disney attraction, the space includes a nap room and play room. It’s supervised by trained Disney counselors who curate activities for the kids. Unlike other youth areas on the ship, the nursery does have reservations and fees, which start at $10 per hour for the first child.

Just like at Disney Parks, young guests can become princesses or pirates at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique aboard Disney Cruise Line ships.

The entrance to Disney’s Oceaneer Club on the Disney Adventure is covered in sketch-style animation images of various Disney characters. The club is for guests ages 3 to 10, although there are open houses for guests of all ages to explore the space.

Marvel WEB Workshop
In the Marvel WEB Workshop, guests train to become Super Heroes.

  • Gear up with prototype suits made for Spider-Man and other heroes, as well as participate in simulations using top-secret Avengers technology.

Andy’s Toy Box
Here, kids can “experience a new perspective as they play in an oversized playground.”

Kids can enjoy a Slinky Dog slide, an interactive screen housed in an Etch-a-Sketch, and all kinds of space to play.

Fairytale Hall
Unlike on other ships, this version of Fairytale Hall is a single large open space. It has an area rug with blue ottomans that can be moved around the room. Plush chairs are up against the walls.

Walt Disney Imagineering Lab
In the Walt Disney Imagineering Lab, guests “Discover the secrets of world-renowned Disney Imagineers—the creative minds behind Disney theme parks, resorts, and cruise ships—with hands-on activities and inventive experiments.”

The space has several tables with chairs, screens, and stations set up for imaginative play.
There’s a 3D printer, books, and other props for guests to explore.

An extension of the Walt Disney Imagineering Lab, The Ride Studio allows kids to design their own roller coaster, which they can then ride virtually. Kids use their Disney Oceaneer Band or DisneyBand+ to start the experience at a kiosk.

Mickey and Minnie Captain’s Deck
Though listed as part of Disney’s Oceaneer Club, Mickey & Minnie Captain’s Deck is right next to “it’s a small world” Nursery. It’s a play area for young kids that can be fully closed off for toddler time.

  • Little cadets can enjoy maritime-themed physical activities and sensory-style games—as well as play time with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse themselves.
  • At select times throughout the voyage, the space will be open to little ones’ families for group play, and toddlers from “it’s a small world” nursery will also have dedicated access to the club to explore, learn, and play with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.

Edge is for tweens and teens from 11 to 14 (11- and 12-year-olds can choose to visit Disney’s Oceaneer Club or Edge). Entertainment at Edge includes:

  • Video gaming stations
  • Tables for arts and crafts
  • A 98ʺ flat-screen plasma TV for watching Disney movies
  • Dance floor for parties and games

Vibe is for guests from 14 to 17. It includes:

  • Multiple flat-screen TVs
